POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Special Education Supervisor and the principal, the Speech-Language Pathologist provides

prevention, assessment, and remediation services for students who exhibit difficulties in the areas of language, speech, voice, and fluency. These services are designed to help children meet their educational goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To communicate, collaborate, and cooperate with colleagues, supervisors, administration and students To serve as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and language improvement

To serve as a resource to teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments

To provide a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, and language impairments and provides a written evaluation report based on the assessment results To provide direct therapy on an individual or small group basis and consultation services as specified in the IEP To collaborate with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement appropriate speech/language program throughout the student's daily activities

To establish and coordinate speech therapy schedule with other therapists and teachers, allowing flexibility for classroom structure plus travel, consultation, planning and evaluation time

To maintain therapy notes on all Medicaid eligible students receiving speech therapy To provide consultation to teachers and parents for suggestions, carryover and use of adaptive equipment and/ or assistive technology To attend specialty courses and workshops, professional conferences, and in-services as time, budget and selection permits

To demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills with faculty, staff, parents, students and community To function under policies established by the Hot Springs Board of Education To perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by employee's supervisor, the principal, or the superintendent

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum of Master's Degree with an accredited educational institution in speech-language therapy. Other requirements per job description.

EXPERIENCE

One year of successful experience is required, preferably with children and adolescents. Other requirements per job

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Hand-eye and mind-eye coordination. Constant hearing; intermittent speaking, standing, walking and writing. Frequent carrying, keyboarding, and other repetitive movements. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds as needed to move objects often.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Skills in human relations, leadership, and conflict management. Knowledgeable of teaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students. Demonstrated skills in the use of technology to enhance student learning.
