Records Division
and one in the
Legislative Division.
The is a service department within the municipal government upon which the City Council, all City departments, and the general public rely for information regarding the operations and legislative history of the City. The
City Clerk's Office
serves as the liaison between the public and City Council and provides related municipal services which may include compiling and maintaining original city records, conducting elections, City Council Agenda preparation, minutes, Municipal Code and Charter maintenance and distribution and commission/committee recruitment and related activities. As part of the
City Clerk's Office , the
Deputy City Clerk I
will perform paraprofessional, technical, and administrative work in support of the Legislative and Elections functions of the department.
This individual will review agenda items to ensure conformity within guidelines; assemble and distribute City Council agenda packets; notify parties of scheduled hearing dates; prepare and coordinate the publication, posting and distribution of legal notices for public meetings and hearings; and assure that legal requirements are met for publication and posting of agendas and minutes and assure compliance with Ralph M. Brown Act requirements.
Candidates may work nights, weekends and adjusted shifts.

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES Education and Experience Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge and skills required is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
Three years of increasingly responsible administrative experience which included duties requiring the use of initiative and independent judgment. An equivalent combination of related education and experience may also be substituted.
Experience in a City Clerk's office or similar government setting
is preferred.
License and/or Certificates A valid class C California driver's license.
A valid Notary Public License must be obtained prior to the completion of the probationary period and maintained thereafter. Successful candidates will possess the following: A high degree of sensitivity to the public and constituencies; Strong interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of City government; Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Ability to multi-task and prioritize; Strong attention to detail; A proven track record of delivering high-quality, error-free products with tight deadlines; Experience with Microsoft Office, Excel, Access, and electronic file management; Experience with the processing, distribution, publication, and posting of public notices; General knowledge of the Ralph M. Brown and Maddy Act; Experience with elections administration; Experience with deeds and property records; and Knowledge in invoice processing procedures.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent with major course work in business administration, public administration or a closely related field

Possession of Certified Municipal Clerks Certificate (CMC)
