Primary Purpose:
To assist in the provision of therapy intervention for students in the district to facilitate their development of improved communication skills.

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree
Texas license as Assistant in Speech Language Pathology

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Skill in individual and group speech and language therapy techniques for children and adolescents
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Minimum Experience:
One or more years experience in a school setting as a speech pathology assistant preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  1. Compile, maintain, and submit all requested data to the supervising speech pathologist for use in maintaining special education records.
  2. Provide therapy and carryover activities to eligible students under the direction of the supervising speech pathologist utilizing appropriate activities and materials that will elicit student interest and participation in order to implement a student's IEP.
  3. Assist with coordination with regular education personnel and provide assistance as needed in the implementation of modifications for students to participate successfully in the least restrictive environment.
  4. Document student progress toward IEP goals through the use of therapy reports and other appropriate data-keeping forms.
  5. Establish and maintain an up-to-date schedule, six week therapy plan, attendance log, daily therapy data, and SHARS notes for each campus and student served.

  1. Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policies.
  2. Follow supervisor suggestions and requests for the best practice procedures as directed.
  3. Develop and maintain professional competence through participation in staff development and other professional growth activities.
  4. Maintain a professional working relationship with students, staff, colleagues, and community.
  5. Observe the confidentiality of student information and records.
  6. Complete and submit regular documentation as required by the Special Education department, including SHARS notes.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Light lifting and bending; frequent travel within
the district. Hectic pace; service multiple campuses; deadlines, and frequent contact with staff and parents. Use of appropriate speech therapy tools; Macintosh or PC computer and software skills
