TLC IS A K-12 PUBLIC HYBRID HOMESCHOOL We incorporate both school and parent involvement in educating students. Families can choose between a 100% homeschool program, or a hybrid program, with 3 days at school and 2 days at home. Teachers and staff are required to report onsite five days per week.

OUR HISTORY In May 2004, the San Diego Unified School District approved The Learning Choice Academy and authorized it to serve students in grades K-12. Currently, TLC has charters for all three school sites with sponsors from local districts including Chula Vista Elementary School District, Grossmont Union High School District, and San Diego Unified School District.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Personalized Student Services Department, Education Specialist will be responsible for facilitating students with disabilities success in academics and interpersonal skills. The Education Specialist will provide appropriate accommodations, modifications, and individualized materials. At The Learning Choice Academy, the Education Specialist is considered an integral part of the general education staff; therefore they will be expected to collaborate and consult with all teachers on a regular basis.

Essential Job Functions: - Provide instruction and services for identified pupils who have an IEP. These students are assigned to general education classrooms for the majority of the school day. -Provide consultation, resource information, and specific materials regarding individuals with disabilities to their general education teachers. -Coordinate resources for special education students. -Provide specialized academic instruction to special education students based on each student's IEP -Monitor student progress on IEP goals on a regular basis. Report findings to the appropriate school personnel and parents on a scheduled basis. -Participate in the multi-disciplinary assessment of students for possible eligibility and triennial reviews. -Develop appropriate IEP goals and objectives. Develop linguistically appropriate goals if necessary. -Follow state and federal compliance mandates/timelines. -Provide information and assistance to parents of students with IEPs. -Provide staff development to school staff regarding students with disabilities. -Develop appropriate IEP goals and objectives. Job Description / Essential Elements:

I. IDENTIFICATION:

1) Referrals for special educational services will go to the resource specialist. The Specialist may process the referrals in any or all of the following ways:

a. Confer with the referring teacher

b. Notify parents in writing and discuss with them the intended assessment before any testing is done. Obtain written consent from the parent prior to any assessment.

c. Observe, test, or otherwise evaluate the child.

d. Obtain reports of any previous testing and/or special help

e. Ask a designated services person, the nurse, or psychologist to help evaluate the child. Persons conducting the assessment shall maintain a complete written record of diagnostic procedures employed and their results. They shall also record the conclusions reached, the suggested treatment, its anticipated duration, and the specific objectives outlined for the pupil.

2) Coordinate the writing of the instructional plan.

II. INSTRUCTIONS:

1) The resource specialist may work with identified special education children on a one-to-one basis

III. COORDINATION AND CONSULTATION:

1) The resource specialist will coordinate the program of pupils enrolled in designated instruction and services.

2) The resource specialist may interpret educational and psychological findings to the school staff and/or parents of special education pupils.

3) In-service training for teachers or parents may be provided by the resource specialist.

4) Special materials, resource information or consultant services may be provided by the resource specialist to either staff or parents.

IV. EVALUATION:

1) The resource specialist monitors the progress of each certified special education pupil in relationship to the child's instructional plan.

2) The resource specialist will collect information and reports in preparation for the bi-annual review and prepare a written report of the review.

3) The resource specialist coordinates the rewriting of the pupil's instructional plan when any change is agreed upon and approved by the parent.

4) The resource specialist will obtain the signatures of the parent whenever any change is made in the child's instructional plan.
