Position: Special Education Coach (Instructional) Location: TLC Center State Date: 2025-2026 School Year Reports to: Director of Student Services Compensation: Refer to current teacher salary scale on District website Work Year: 10 months
POSITION GOAL : The Special Education Instructional Coach is responsible for supporting the professional growth and development of Special Education teachers and other instructional staff to develop and improve strategies, skills, tools., techniques, capacity, and compliance practices to effectively teach all students. This position provides job-embedded support through planning, modeling, conducting classroom visits, analyzing data, and offering collegial and actionable feedback. The position also collaboratively works to coordinate professional growth and development of special education teachers or staff working with special education students. As a Special Education Instructional Coach, the employee may work in a variety of elementary, secondary, individual, or team settings.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:
Applicant must meet State of Delaware certification requirements for Special Education Teacher of Students with Disabilities. Minimum of 5 years teaching within the field of special education is required. Master's degree in special education or a related field is preferred. Coaching experience preferred. Acceptable Criminal Background Report and no entries on Child Abuse Registry in the State of Delaware. Demonstrates sensitivity to issues impacting various cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic groups. Strong evidence of knowledge in best practices for teaching students with disabilities that are known to be effective in promoting student engagement and achievement. Advanced knowledge skill in applying IDEA requirements and procedures. Must possess demonstrated evidence of involvement in school activities and committees involving leadership responsibilities beyond those required in the classroom. Proficient in technology such as Microsoft Office and Google applications, ClassLink, Schoology, PowerSchool IEP, eSchool, etc. Able to establish and maintain effective positive, working relationships with teachers, paraeducators administrators, students, and other building and district staff. Evidence of continuous professional learning and a commitment to participate in professional growth opportunities and self-reflection on professional practice. Regular attendance is an essential function of the position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities related to the District. Develop, plan, and facilitate professional learning opportunities for district stakeholders that promotes achievement for all students, specifically students with disabilities. Participates in ongoing professional learning opportunities in support of the district-wide mission, vision, and goals. Monitor, observes, and coaches around evidence and research-based instructional strategies for teachers and monitors implementation. Serves as an instructional resource for teachers and instructional staff. Provides training and support for teachers in their efforts to develop, implement, and maintain practical, compliant, and effective IEPs. Conduct classroom instruction either for direct learning by students or for demonstrating effective intervention and instructional teaching practices for teachers and support staff. Coach and provide instructional support for special education teachers to enhance instructional strategies and support student learning needs. Also provide targeted instructional support for special education teachers for developing and implementing specialized curriculum(s). Works collaboratively and regularly attends PLC (Professional Learning Community) for various special education programs and building teams throughout the district. Develops, obtains, maintains, and provides student data that supports student achievement of students with disabilities. Provides leadership in data analysis on a district, school, and classroom level to make data-based decisions relative to instructional practices and supporting students with disabilities. Demonstrates the ability to take initiative on developing creative and innovative ways to assist students and teachers in making progress. Stays up to date with developments, research, and instructional best practices in the field of special education. Serves on various committees as required. Performs any other duties as assigned by the Instructional Specialist or Director of Student Services to address district or program needs.
