The Assistant Bookstore Manager, under the general supervision of the Bookstore Manager, coordinates the procedures necessary to obtain a profitable operation in the textbook department including but not limited to: textbook timeline of adopting, buyback, purchasing, selling, textbook rental management, and returning of textbooks to coincide with the schedule of classes at Black Hawk College. Responsible for general oversight and operation of the Bookstore in the Bookstore Manager’s absence.
DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Responsible for assisting the Bookstore Manager with the accounting functions of the bookstore including but not limited to: the reconciliation of daily deposits, processing invoices, and assisting with cost-saving initiatives. Responsible for the timely training of faculty, collection and compilation of book adoptions, and communicating updates and/or changes to the Bookstore Manager as well as faculty in compliance with all laws and regulations. Responsible for working with all vendors and publishers to assure timely ordering, coordination of book buyback, and utilizing the textbook management system for accurately receiving and returning books. Responsible for maintaining and fulfilling online textbook orders and reservations. Responsible for recruiting, scheduling, training, developing, evaluating, and delegating responsibilities to part-time, temporary, and student employees. Works at East Campus Bookstore as needed and during absence of East Campus Bookstore staff. Responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the bookstore including but not limited to: opening and/or closing the bookstore daily, running a cash register on a regular basis, maintaining a clean and orderly bookstore at all times, maintaining confidentiality and security of bookstore financial records, and working flexible hours as needed. Makes effective recommendations to the Bookstore Manager regarding Bookstore policies, procedures, and operations. Maintains satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record. Responsible for supervision of part-time, temporary, and student employees. Responsible for assisting with training, developing, evaluating, and delegating responsibilities to full-time, part-time, temporary, and student employees. DESCRIPTION OF OTHER DUTIES:
Assists in creating a team environment with a focus on providing a customer services-oriented atmosphere. Responsible for merchandising displays, including accurate shelf tags and signage. Assists in the maintenance of store system hardware, software, and e-commerce sites. Oversees the bookstore in the absence of the Bookstore Manager. Attends training as needed or requested by the Bookstore Manager. Protects assets of the bookstore. Performs other job duties as assigned. OVERALL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Works directly and cooperatively with the Bookstore Manager and all other bookstore staff. Works directly and cooperatively with the East Campus Bookstore staff. Works directly and cooperatively with faculty, staff, vendors, and students. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or the recognized equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred with major in Business, Accounting, or Management preferred as well. Basic level ability with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and the Internet required. Previous supervisory experience required. Retail experience at the supervisory/management level is preferred. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds on a regular basis required. Previous experience working in retail or a college bookstore preferred. Valid driver’s license required. Ability to exercise independent judgment in overseeing the Bookstore’s operations in the absence of the Bookstore Manager. Ability to travel to and from East Campus and work as needed at East Campus Bookstore required. Ability to work flexible hours required.
