As a Metallurgical Engineer, you will be a part of a larger metallurgical laboratory team tasked with assuring the quality of mining and construction equipment and components.


You will work in a hands-on engineering role supporting industrial part production and processes. Your scope of responsibilities will include failure analysis of parts returned from customers as well as qualifying parts based off their metallurgical specifications & requirements.


Additionally, you will support process engineering, design, manufacturing, and quality teams focused on root cause corrective actions found from the failure analysis & part qualifications. This role supports a world class manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, which maintains an ISO accredited certified quality environment. The successful candidate will be trained and certified in several ASTM specifications & methods that will help maintain the labs ISO 17025 A2LA accreditation as a certified organization.


Various lab responsibilities including metallography, microscopy, fractography, non-destructive evaluation, SEM/EDS analysis & interpretation, mechanical testing including tensile & charpy testing, hardness testing and various other aspects of destructive testing.

Qualified candidates will have a Bachelors of Science in Metallurgical or Materials Science engineering.


Typical task breakdown:

• Part or project identification. Material management. Print interpretation. Test plan development. Nondestructive evaluation. Destructive evaluation & testing. Documentation. Communication. Work with laboratory, internal quality engineers, external suppliers & customer.


Interaction with team:

• This position will interact with several team members including the Failure Analysis team, the NDE management team, the AMT Laboratory team, the Chemical team, external suppliers & customers.


Work environment:

• Steady mix of shop, lab & office/desk work included for most of the documentation & communication.


Education & Experience Required:

• Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical or Materials Science Engineering

• Preferred candidates would include 3+ years of previous experience
