TITLE: SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAPROFESSIONAL

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To help the teacher provide for physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in the school setting. Assist in implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instruction programs. Work under the general supervision of the principal and immediate direction of the special education teacher.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or GED

2. Minimum of (1) year experience working with children

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Must be able to lift 50-75 pounds

Ability to effectively communicate with parents, co-workers, and students

Ability to work well with children with disabilities

Ability to communicate effectively

Ability to work well under supervision

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Work collaboratively with the teachers and parents to support educational needs of the students

Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment

Assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, and positioning

Assist students with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, tube feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene

Comply with al School Board policies, all federal and state laws and regulations relative to special education program

Maintain a high level of confidentiality

Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher, principal, and/or Director of Special Education

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
183-day contract. Salary to be established by the school board.

EVALUATION: Performance on this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with school board policy.
