Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Legal Secretary with a background in defense-side litigation to support attorneys through all phases of litigation, from pre-litigation through trial. This role requires someone who can step in and efficiently manage case deadlines, court filings, and trial preparation with minimal onboarding and supervision.
Job Duties:
- Providing litigation support, managing discovery, organizing case materials, and assisting attorneys throughout all stages of litigation.
- Independently tracking and managing litigation cases, discovery, and pre-trial deadlines, ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements.
- Drafting and preparing various legal documents, including pleadings, discovery demands and responses, subpoenas, and deposition notices.
- Formatting documents in Microsoft Word, creating tables of contents and authorities, proofreading, and preparing for final submission.
- Maintaining an accurate, up-to-date litigation calendar, sending timely reminders and ensuring all deadlines are met.
- Monitor and follow up on multiple, competing deadlines.
- Filing documents electronically in state and federal courts, adhering strictly to jurisdiction-specific requirements.
- Coordinating trial preparation, including managing exhibits and witness logistics.
- Systematically organizing case files and managing emails in the document management system.
Qualifications:
- 5 - 7+ years of significant defense-side litigation experience.
- Employment or public entity preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of litigation and procedural rules, including deadlines, filing requirements, and deadlines.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), Adobe Acrobat, and legal case management software — preferably Clio.
- High level of organization and attention to detail, with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- High-quality work product.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to interact professionally with attorneys, clients, and court personnel.
- Ability to complete multiple assignments and meet deadlines accurately and efficiently.
Compensation and benefits:
- Salary is based on experience from $60,000 - $85,000 per year
- 1 day work from home available after 90 days
