POSITION TITLE: Custodian/Custodian Floater
EXEMPTION STATUS: Non-exempt
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Department/Assigned Campus
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 Months
HOURLY SALARY RANGE: Minimum $11.00, Midpoint $13.75, Maximum $16.50
Primary Purpose:
Follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.
Qualifications
Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED, preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures
- Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment
- Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Cleaning:
- Maintain a cleaning schedule that will include cleaning of floors, chalkboards, marker boards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms.
- Keep school building and grounds neat and clean, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas.
- Assist in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and request additional supplies as needed.
Maintenance and Repair:
- Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
- Make minor building repairs as needed and report major repair needs to principal.
- Assist with cafeteria and other room set up, including moving and arranging tables, chairs, and equipment as directed by principal.
- Assist in setting up facilities for special events.
- Perform preventive maintenance to ensure the comfort, health, and safety of students and staff.
Security and Safety:
- Assist with opening and closing building each school day.
- Secure assigned keys.
- Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.
- Check daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during occupancy hours.
- Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash and chemicals.
- Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

- Tools/Equipment Used: Buffer, stripper, wet and dry vacuum cleaner, electric drill, shampooer, lawn mower, edger, and weed eater
- Posture: Continual standing, walking; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting, climbing
- Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, wrist flexion/extension
- Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance, 30-55 pounds with assistance, and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance
- Environment: Work indoors and outdoors, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces and ladders; exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials
