Summer Custodian II

Hourly Wage: $15.00

A limited number of positions will be available for summer employment.

Principal Duties:

  • Under the supervision of the Building Engineer, you are responsible for the following restorative summer cleaning tasks:

  • Scrubbing and/or stripping floors, washing classroom furniture and equipment, shampooing carpet and rugs, deep clean toilets and polishing fixtures, dusting, washing windows, power washing, etc.

  • Yard work including mowing, and trimming of trees/shrubs.

  • Replacing bulbs and clean light fixtures.

  • Replace ceiling tile.

  • Moving classroom furniture and equipment which includes lifting and carrying.

  • Move and arrange furniture for school functions.

  • Carry out additional requests of building principal and engineer, as needed.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

  • Ability to work with and learn basic tools of the trade: mops, vacuum cleaners, rotary machine, dolly, hand carts, wet vac, squeegees, etc.

  • Capable of planning, organizing, and carrying out daily work schedules.

  • Able to work independently on tasks.

  • Skilled at cleaning in detail.

  • Able to work in adverse weather; rain, wind, lack of air conditioning, cold, heat, etc.

  • Knowledge of modern cleaning methods, the use and care of materials, tools, and equipment.

  • Responsible attitude towards job and fellow workers.

  • Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.

  • Effective oral and written communications.

  • Aptitude for detail.

  • Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions.

  • Capable of representing the school District in a professional manner.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve problems effectively. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, colleagues, community members, staff and students. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb, use hands and fingers to handle and/or feel objects, squat, and stoop, kneel, reach above the head, and push/pull or lift/move heavy objects throughout each work day.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is usually quiet but employee may work in areas of a building or operate equipment where hearing protection is recommended. The employee will move, stand, and squat on an assortment of surfaces including tile, wood, terrazzo, and concrete. The employee will generally work inside but will be required to work outside during hot or cold weather, rain snow, sleet and icy conditions performing their duties.
