The City of Monticello is currently accepting applications for part-time clerks at Hi-Way Liquors. Applicants must be available to work nights and weekends (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). Additional premium pay of $1-$3/hr. is available to anyone working 20.25+ hours per 2 week pay period.
General Statement of Duties: Performs routine retail sales work assisting customers locate and purchase store merchandise; performs related duties as required.
Supervision Received: Works under the general and/or technical supervision of the Liquor Store Manager or Assistant Liquor Store Manager; may receive some work direction from the full-time Liquor Store Clerks.
Supervision Exercised: None.

Responsibilities
- Greets customers and operates point of sale system to process purchases; collects money and provides correct change.
- Checks patrons ID's and verifies data on checks; refuses service if needed in accordance with Store policy.
- Assists the customer in carrying merchandise to their vehicles as needed.
- Assists with stocking shelves and/or coolers and rotating stock as assigned.
- Answers phones, provides information and assistance to callers, and takes messages for the Manager.
- Records requests for items not in stock and notes items that are running low.
- Marks stock with correct prices as needed.
- Assists in cleaning the store, including: cleaning backroom, washing glass doors, cleaning windows, vacuuming, cleaning coolers and bathrooms, dusting shelves and merchandise.
- Takes out the garbage; shovels snow.
- Participates in quarterly physical inventory as needed.
- Recommends purchases including type, quantity and brand when requested by patrons.
- Reports liquor-related violations or difficult patrons to full-time staff or supervisor.
- Makes changes to display or signs as directed.
- Reports any mechanical problems to managers.
- May review invoices and verify accuracy of merchandise delivery.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of how to operate a cash register or point of sale system and make correct change.
- Working knowledge of merchandise types, brands and location within the store.
- Working skill in the use of a computer, cash register and calculator.
- Considerable ability to deal courteously with the public and provide good customer service.
- Working ability to use judgment and discretion in sales based on age, state of inebriation, and/or possibility of bad checks.
- Work is performed in a standard retail environment out on the retail floor and also in the stockroom and cooler.
- Work may be performed inside a cooler that is approximately 40 degrees.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Hear and speak effectively to communicate in person and on the phone with the public and employees.
- Required to lift, move, push, and carry store product weighing up to 30-40 pounds.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and stretch.
- Six months of customer service or retail experience.
- Must be 18 years or older.
