The Sports Medicine teaching position is part of the Oxford School District’s Career and Technical Education program at Oxford High School. This position will introduce students to the field of sports medicine and the numerous career paths associated with the field, including athletic training, physical therapy, and orthopedics. The instructor will be expected to develop a network of community partners in order to identify opportunities for students to shadow and learn from practitioners in the field.

All applicants must have at least one year of verifiable experience in the field of sports medicine and be willing to begin work toward a standard five-year CTE teaching license.

Location: Schools Salary Scales: Teacher Scale (A-AAAA)

Position Type: Full-Time Salary Range: $47,764-$79,922

Description of Position: To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Work is performed under the supervision of the principal with support from curriculum specialists and academic coaches.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare Lesson Plans That Meet the Needs of Learners
    • Ensure lessons are aligned to standards and represent a coherent sequence of learning.
    • Prepare lessons with high levels of learning for all students.
  • Provide Quality Instruction That Leads to Student Understanding
    • Assist students in taking responsibility for learning and monitor student learning.
    • Provide multiple ways for students to make meaning of content.
    • Recognize and respond appropriately to individual differences and developmental stages of students.
  • Maintain a Culture and Learning Environment That Promotes Student Learning
    • Manage a learning-focused classroom community.
    • Manage classroom space, time, and resources (including technology when appropriate) effectively for student learning.
    • Create and maintain a classroom of respect for all students.
    • Support student learning through sponsorship of CTE student clubs or organizations.
  • Maintain a High Level of Professionalism
    • Engage in professional learning.
    • Establish and maintain effective communication with colleagues, students, and families/guardians.
    • Develop strong partnerships with business and industry in the community.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College/University
  • Minimum Class “A” Mississippi Teaching Certificate
  • Subject required endorsement(s) to be “highly qualified”.See attachment.
