The OUHSC campus occupies a fifteen block area in downtown Oklahoma City, surrounding these buildings are additional health-related buildings.
The Health Sciences Center is the core of a wider complex known as the Oklahoma Health Center.
We are currently looking for a Lead Carpenter to join our team - the leader in this position will ensure that all inspections, maintenance, construction and repairs are performed on campus facilities, in a timely manner, and within budget and will report directly to the Carpentry Foreman.
Duties:
Ensures specifications for each job are established on blueprints, drawings, or diagrams.
Ensures the correct tools and materials are used and safety procedures are followed.
Ensures construction and installation of all wooden, architectural, structural elements, furnishings, and new and altered casework on construction projects are completed in a timely manner and within budget.
Responsible for constructing drywall partitions, installing wood and metal doors and frames with related hardware.
Repairs and maintains all wooden, architectural, and structural elements and furnishings.
Repairs and replaces screens, blinds, shades, acoustical tile ceilings, furniture, fixtures, crates, and lockers.
Performs periodic inspections and determines when and what kind of carpenter work is needed.
Operates and maintains all associated carpentry equipment.
Prepares cost estimates and establishes standards and specifications when purchasing new equipment.
Maintains a clean, neat, and safe work area.
Makes estimates of time and materials and compiles material lists for small jobs.
Records time spent on each job, creates and maintains a material list used for each job.
Assists the Carpenter Shop Foreman with hiring, training, performance evaluations, reprimands, terminations, supervising, and scheduling subordinates.
Continues to stay abreast of changing technologies, procedures, and new products by reading appropriate trade journals, safety codes, and operating manuals.
Performs in a lead capacity to ensure ice and snow are removed from sidewalks, streets, and parking areas.
Uses power equipment such as drill presses, shapers, planers, jointers, saws, and sanding machines to perform necessary carpentry work.
Assigns hand tools and/or heavy equipment.
Participates
in training and educational activities.
Encourages other employees to participate.
Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position to include assisting any skilled trade.
Required Education:
High School Diploma or GED or Trade School Certification
AND,
48 months carpentry experience.
Skills:
Advanced knowledge of principles and theory of the safe operation of all equipment·
Advanced knowledge of raw materials and how the materials can be used·
Advanced knowledge of building codes and permits required·
Advanced knowledge of design techniques in order to create blueprints, drawings, and schematics·
Advanced knowledge of safety rules and regulations·
Ability to read more complex written procedures, specifications, and blueprints·
Ability to estimate costs of a project to include materials and resources needed to complete the job·
Ability to manage time and prioritize·
Ability to lead and train other Carpenters.
Certifications:
Valid Oklahoma Driver's License in order to drive University vehicles or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire date.
Working Conditions:
Physical:
Frequent and repeated bending, stooping, and kneeling.
Working with arms extended above head.
Frequent lifting and carrying loads in excess of fifty pounds, up or down stairs.
Climbing ladders.
Repetitive wrist and arm movement.
Frequent stress on the arms and back.
Environmental\:
Regular exposure to irritating noises and safety hazards.
Exposure to dust and other airborne particles.
The employee in this position performs in a lead capacity for a busy Carpenter Shop and assists the Carpenter Shop Foreman with hiring, training, performance evaluations, reprimands, terminations, supervising, and scheduling shop employees.
