The ideal candidate will be a skilled communicator and problem-solver who can effectively manage employee and labor relations, ensure compliance with labor laws, and contribute to maintaining a positive and productive work environment. This individual will work on the Human Resources Team and partner with Operations, Legal and the Retail Field Leadership and Plant/Distribution Leadership Teams. They will be responsible for providing strategic HR support and enabling management effectiveness by leading employee facing people projects and initiatives. This role focuses on labor relations, positive employee relations, change management, performance management, investigations and legal compliance. This contractor role is hourly based in Emeryville, CA with the opportunity to convert to full time. Duration: 6-9 months / Full-Time The target hourly rate is $53/hr. - $58/hr. Key Responsibilities:
Labor Relations Serve as the primary point of contact for leaders regarding labor-related concerns, grievances, and disputes. Develop leadership training and strategies to foster positive employee relations, enhance workplace culture, communication strategies and ensure a harmonious work environment. Provide guidance, create and facilitate training to managers and supervisors on best practices for employee engagement, communication, and conflict resolution. Stay informed in labor laws, regulations, and developments in the field of labor relations to ensure the organization's practices remain compliant and effective. Collaborate with leaders to address employee concerns and maintain open lines of communication between functional areas, departments, managers & staff. Interpret and apply labor laws, regulations, and company policies to help leaders ensure compliance. Support leaders in managing and overseeing the grievance resolution process, conducting thorough investigations and proposing appropriate solutions. Support leaders in representing Peet’s in negotiation and administration of collective bargaining agreements, ensuring fair and respectful representation of both management and employees' interests. Partner with leaders to develop employee and labor relations strategies and partner on implementation of processes and training. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records related to employee relations, grievances, and labor agreements. Support other activities as needed to ensure consistency of employee policies, procedures and employee environment. Monitor organizational climate, employee sentiment, trends and developments in labor relations and proactively implement improvements to policies and practices. Serve in an HR business partner capacity. Collaborate with Legal, HR, Operations, Communication, Field Leaders, Safety & Security to ensure that the organization's actions align with labor laws and regulations and address complex labor-related issues. HR Business Partnership and Employee Relations Collaborate with a team of HR professionals to support initiatives and strategies related to HR and Peet’s in general. Establish and maintain effective partnerships with regional, district, and store level retail leadership and act as a business partner to assigned population. Present on an as needed basis for business meetings and conduct climate surveys and immersion meetings, partnering with business leaders. Provide counsel and support to leadership in resolving employee issues, executing disciplinary policies, conducting investigations monitoring case activity and ensuring follow through to resolution. Ensure implementation of and compliance with Peet’s HR policies, procedures, and initiatives, and monitor compliance with all statutory and legal requirements. Counsel hiring managers regarding hiring practices and procedures and ensure compliance and understanding of EEO, hiring, and compensation guidelines. Partner with internal and external counsel to prepare for, and, as necessary, appear at, arbitrations, depositions, mediations, and other court proceedings. Conduct ongoing information and training sessions on a variety of HR and compliance topics. Provide continued guidance in creating an energizing and productive culture, in cultivating Peet’s values, and in making Peet’s a great place to work. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business Administration or equivalent work experience. Five years + experience working in a union environment handling grievance, investigations, leading labor management strategies, while maintaining a positive relationship with local union leadership and shop stewards. Experience leading employee relations and employee investigations preferably in an HR business partner capacity. Must be a self-starter and able to work in an unstructured environment. Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills. In-depth understanding of labor laws, regulations, and best practices in locations & business units Peet’s operates. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to guide and influence at all levels of the organization. Demonstrated and approachable experience in developing and implementing effective employee engagement and communication initiatives. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to address issues before they escalate. Proficiency in MS Office Suite, HRIS systems, AI technology. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and build positive relationships at all levels. Experience in developing and delivering training programs. Other duties as assigned. Peet’s Home Office is a Hybrid worksite, which requires any Home Office employees to work onsite a minimum of
