Minimum educational attainment - Master's Degree in school administration with an emphasis in curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Specialist or Doctorate preferred. Certification or Licensure:
Nebraska Administrative and Supervisory Certificate. A valid driver's license. Experience Desired:
Building-level and/or district level experience with at least three years of successful experience working in a school system serving diverse student and staff needs. Other Requirements:

Superintendent of Schools ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Frequent: Serves on the Superintendent's Cabinet and advises the Superintendent on learning, assessment, instruction, and student improvement issues. Collaborates with others to implement an effective professional learning community culture in each building and throughout the District. Acts as one of three representatives of the Superintendent, with line authority, in the areas of learning, instruction, assessment, and student services. Leads and directs district and school improvement efforts. Leads and directs the use of funds specifically provided for career education programs. Meets deadlines. Works with building and district administrators to develop and implement effective school policies and programs in the areas of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and school improvement. Collaborates with others to provide accurate reports on student achievement and program effectiveness as required at the local, state, and federal levels. Provides oversight and direction for the district's curriculum and assessment management system. Interprets and presents information pertaining to curriculum, instruction, assessment, and improvement to the staff, the Board, and the community. Works with teachers, building administrators, and district administrators to implement a developmentally appropriate and standards-based program of studies at all levels and in all programs, pre-school through graduation. Provides leadership in establishing new programs and developing improved understanding of existing programs. Works with teachers, building administrators, and district administrators to differentiate instruction within the standards-based program of studies at all levels and in all programs, pre-school through graduation. Provides direction and support, in cooperation with the Director Learning and Support and the Director of Student Services, for staff, liaisons, instructional facilitators, other curriculum leaders, and building principals in the effort to develop programming to meet the needs of all students. Works with the Director of Learning and Support, the Director of Student Services, building principals, curriculum leaders, and staff to implement the District's student assessment plan and facilitates the use of the test results, and other forms of data, to improve the program of studies and the delivery of instructional services of the school system. Develops, directs, implements, maintains, and revises, when necessary and with the Director of Learning and Support and the Director of Student Services, the curriculum review plan that includes a materials adoption process and timeline. Works collaboratively with the Director of Finance and Operations in developing budget recommendations and providing expenditure control in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Approves all textbooks or electronic resources providing base support, related materials and equipment, and supplementary texts used by the instructional staff. Assists with on-going school improvement processes to assure curricular and instructional goals are met. Works with the Director of Learning and Support and the Director of Student Services to further develop the knowledge, skills, disposition, and practices of staff, including Principals, through the implementation of effective and systematic professional development programming and activities. Keeps the Superintendent's Cabinet informed of the curricular and instructional needs of the students attending the Hastings Public Schools and recommends possible programming to address those needs. Provides the Superintendent with insights into the quality of the instructional leadership provided by the building principals and other curriculum leaders. Works with administrators and teachers at all levels so as to provide an articulated learning, instructional, and assessment program. Keeps abreast of research, innovations, trends and issues in the area of curriculum and instruction. This position may include Medicaid Administrative Claiming (MAC) activities. Performs all duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent. Occasional or Periodic: Works closely with the other Directors, building principals and professional staff members to plan summer curriculum projects and seeks the approval of the Superintendent for such programming. Provides, with the Director of Learning and the Director of Student Services, oversight and direction for summer school programming. Assists Principals in formulating programming to assure the goals of the District and the consistent goals of each building are attained. Assists the Director of Finance and Operations in maintaining a permanent inventory of textbooks, materials, and equipment. Works closely with the State Department in auditing and reviewing submitted data. Serves on committees as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
