Position Description Under the general supervision of the Administrator, in collaboration with the Dean of Counseling and Special Programs, the Counselor's responsibilities include individual and group counseling; instruction of personal development courses; planning educational activities designed to enhance personal/social/emotional well-being of students; evaluation of assessments; orientation of new students; and assignment to support a student population, including, but not limited to AANHPI, Puente, UMOJA, Veterans, Career Technical Education, and formerly incarcerated. This position may require assignments in the evenings and/or weekends and/or at off-campus locations including online counseling. Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for guidance and counseling functions of the assigned program. Assist with students' career exploration and program selection, adjustments to college and personal development. Provide students with information regarding resources, opportunities, and assistance available to them at the college and in the community including procedures for enrollment, assessment, financial aid, and academic progress. Ensure student populations are engaged in a guided pathways framework, including completion of comprehensive educational plans. Advocate for equitable opportunities for the college's diverse student population. Actively engage in technological tools designed to assist the students and institution in moving students toward goal completion. Teach Personal Development courses, as assigned, in accordance with post-secondary level established course outlines. Develop curriculum and contribute to the Program Review process. Evaluate student work using clear criteria relevant to the course content and student learning outcomes and provide feedback to students in a timely manner. Develop and implement a variety of effective counseling and assessment methods including the use of computers and information technology to engage student interest and support for a variety of learning styles. Serve as a resource for faculty in dealing with individual student problems; refer students to appropriate campus and community resources as needed. Engage in activities that enhance rapport with local high schools, Department of Rehabilitation, industry partners, and/or four-year institutions. Organize new student orientation, time management, organizational skills, and stress management workshops. Maintain and submit accurate records according to published deadlines (i.e., grades, syllabi, attendance reports), including mandated reports focusing on Title 5 regulations. Participate in the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of curriculum as well as assess student learning outcomes at the course and program levels. Continue in related professional career development throughout employment and remain current in the field through coursework, conferences, workshops, and other appropriate means. Carry out collegial responsibilities including, but not limited to, institutional committee assignments, student recruitment and retention, and participation in shared governance and campus life activities. Communicate and work cooperatively with colleagues (within discipline and college-wide) on matters regarding course offerings, programs, and activities that would enhance the development of the department and college. Perform duties described in Board policy, the Faculty Handbook, the United Faculty of Ohlone (faculty bargaining unit) contract, and as assigned at the Fremont and Newark campuses, and/or other designated locations. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family, and child counseling;

Desirable Qualifications Experience counseling students about community college options, including certificates, associate degrees, and/or transferring to four-year institutions. Experience developing/coordinating workshops and events. Experience in developing and coordinating culturally responsive learning communities. Experience in working with culturally diverse student populations (teaching or other situations in a leadership role). Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity; recent experience working with Asian American, African American, Latinx, Native American, and other minoritized students and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusions of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes. A commitment to participatory governance, consensus building, and team approach to management. Experience in the use of computer technology as a teaching tool, including experience with course management systems (i.e., Blackboard, Canvas, etc.). Initial salary placement is determined per Article 16.3 of the faculty contract. Faculty members advance one step each year and have the potential to reach the current maximum step of $171,015.00, depending on the educational level attained.
