DEFINITION:

Meter Reader Duties

To read meters using AMR (ERT) technology such as GOBOOK or F.C.S. or handheld reading device in accordance with daily schedule. Read meters manually, including Power Book and Daily Transportation accounts and record reads appropriately. Install Itron AMR devices on to meter indexes. Accurately record meter number, read and ERT ID in Read One-Pro unit and program ERT. Investigate problem AMR devices as needed. This includes verify account information such as meter number, location and size. Complete interrogation of device to determine cause of problem and take appropriate action to correct. Report unusual conditions encountered and special instructions. Report gas leaks and by-passes immediately. Safely operate motor vehicle.

Field Collector Duties

Performs a variety of duties to make necessary payment collections. Duties include reading meters, making calculations and recording data, making collections and when necessary negotiate and set up payment arrangements following established procedures. Work from collection orders, established regulations, written and/or verbal instructions in performance of duties. Refers to collection orders for collection to be made daily. Secures available keys from office and start on daily route. Greet customer, make collection call. If collection is not made, proceed to meter location to lock same in prescribed manner. Exercise care in moving materials blocking access to meter and replace same upon completion of reading. Read meter and record consumption. Compare with previous readings, notating substantial variances to be reported to office. Report damaged meters to office. Referring to collection orders for collection, accept monies due, record name, and provide customer with receipt, in accordance with collection procedures. When monies are not available follow established policies to remedy situation including termination of service. Upon completion of route, turn in collection orders and monies collected to appropriate office personnel. Fill out daily reports on collections. Follow prescribed instructions in dealing with animals encountered on the route and report problem areas to supervisor.

May be assigned other work in accordance with Union Agreement. The applicant is expected to work anywhere in the territory served by the Lawrence Operations Center.

QUALIFICATIONS & CONDITIONS: Must have high school diploma or GED Must possess and retain an unrestricted vehicle operator's license Must be regular in attendance and have a good safety record. Must have the ability to deal with customers tactfully. Must maintain appropriate appearance Must be adept with figures, accurate in handling funds. Must have the necessary fitness and ability to perform assigned work Expected to work in inclement weather conditions as determined by supervisor. Must be willing and able to accept emergency assignments and work overtime. Be consistently punctual and regular in attendance Have the ability to maintain/keep required records satisfactorily

SCHEDULE:

Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This schedule is subject to change for vacations, shifts, extended illness and/or in accordance with the Agreement.

WAGE PROGRESSION:

Eligible for automatic increases to Maximum Job Rate in accordance with Union Agreement.
