About the Company - Our company is seeking a dedicated and results-oriented Director of Field Operations to oversee the performance and development of Site Managers and Field Staff across utility-scale solar PV projects in the U.S. This full-time position requires a dynamic individual to lead field operations, ensuring the efficient and timely execution of projects. The Director will collaborate closely with Project Managers, ensuring alignment between site teams and project goals, while also coordinating with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Compliance, Pre-Construction, Procurement, and O&M, to achieve budget, schedule, and quality objectives. Reporting to the EVP of Preconstruction & Business Development, the ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, as well as a proactive approach to driving operational excellence. Responsibilities -
- Lead and manage field operations for utility-scale solar projects, ensuring effective execution at assigned project sites.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop Site Managers and Field Staff, ensuring consistent alignment with company standards and project objectives.
- Maintain close collaboration with Project Managers to ensure site teams are aligned with project schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
- Possess a thorough understanding of civil, mechanical, and electrical scopes of work essential for solar PV project execution.
- Oversee daily site activities to ensure compliance with project plans, QA/QC requirements, safety protocols, and best practices.
- Allocate and manage field resources across multiple, concurrent projects to ensure successful and timely completion.
- Review project schedules, construction documents, and design drawings, providing input and oversight to ensure field readiness.
- Develop and implement operational strategies, policies, and procedures to optimize field efficiency and ensure project success.
- Ensure proper training and certification of field personnel, including adherence to safety and quality standards.
- Facilitate regular communication between site teams, Project Managers, and internal stakeholders to resolve issues and maintain progress.
- Represent field operations during project meetings, addressing challenges and identifying solutions in real time.
- Act as the primary liaison between field teams and cross-functional departments such as Engineering, Compliance, Pre-Construction, Procurement, and O&M.
- Conduct site visits to monitor field activities, ensuring compliance with QA/QC plans, design specifications, and safety protocols.
- Perform performance evaluations for Site Managers and Field Staff, identifying opportunities for professional growth and development.
Qualifications -
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
- 10+ years of construction management experience, with at least 6 years in utility-scale solar.
- Proven ability to manage and lead site-based teams, including Site Managers and subcontractors.
- Strong experience with project schedules, construction documents, QA/QC processes, and safety protocols.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with software like Trimble Viewpoint or Procore is a plus.
- OSHA 10-hour certification required (30-hour certification preferred).
- NABCEP certification a plus.
- Valid driver’s license.
Physical Requirements -
- Ability to travel frequently to various project sites across the U.S. as needed (Approximately 60% travel expected throughout the year).
- Work on-site in field environments, including walking, standing, climbing, and navigating uneven terrain.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Capable of performing office-related tasks (e.g., computer work) as needed in a hybrid office/field role.
