We're currently seeking a
Senior Controls Engineer
for a leading machinery manufacturer (OEM) in Rolling Meadows, IL. As a Controls Engineer, you will play a vital role in troubleshooting, programming PLCs, HMIs, and motion controls (VFDs, Servo Drives, Servo Motors) for new equipment builds from scratch. Base Pay Range
$90,000.00/yr - $115,000.00/yr Job Requirements:
3+ years' experience in Electrical, Controls, or Automation Engineering. PLC Programming from Scratch – Ability to develop PLC code for new machine builds, not just modify existing programs. Allen Bradley PLC Experience – Proficiency in Allen Bradley PLCs for automation control. Servo Tuning Expertise – Experience with Kinetix 5500 servo drives, including both auto-tuning and manual tuning (manual tuning is critical). Debugging & Troubleshooting – Strong problem-solving skills for debugging automation systems beyond basic commissioning. Full System Design Understanding – Ability to think through system architecture, including defining I/O points per station and integrating into a functional system. Travel Flexibility – Willing to travel approximately 4 to 6 weeks per year. Responsibilities:
Develop, modify, and update PLC programming for each assignment. Developing PLC code from scratch for new machinery builds, rather than modifying existing programs. Allen Bradley PLCs and Kinetix 5500 servo drives is essential. Debugging - Investigate equipment failures or difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and recommend remedial actions. Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, or computer-generated reports. Manage the process of engineering releases including drawings and bills of materials to meet expectations. Research, design, evaluate, or incorporate electrical products, equipment, systems, or processes to meet requirements. Collaborate with engineers or other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions. Develop, coordinate, or monitor all aspects of design, including selection of components.
