The Bankruptcy Legal Assistant will provide comprehensive administrative and legal support to attorneys specializing in bankruptcy law. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience in a law firm setting, with a strong background in handling all aspects of bankruptcy cases. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced legal environment.
Key Responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- Assist attorneys in preparing, and filing bankruptcy petitions, schedules, motions, and other related legal documents.
- Manage and organize case files, including physical and electronic filing, ensuring compliance with court rules and firm policies.
- Prepare and review bankruptcy schedules, proofs of claim, and other necessary documents for filing with the court.
- Maintain and update bankruptcy case calendars, ensuring deadlines are met for filings, hearings, and court appearances.
- Coordinate communication with clients, opposing counsel, trustees, and court personnel.
- File documents with federal and state bankruptcy courts, ensuring all documents are timely filed and accurately recorded.
- Communicate with clients to obtain necessary documentation, updates, and assist with case status inquiries.
- Prepare and organize documents for hearings, motions, and trials.
- Handle administrative tasks such as billing, time entry, and general office support.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a legal assistant in bankruptcy law.
- Strong knowledge of bankruptcy processes, including Chapter 7, Chapter 11, and Chapter 13 filings, as well as related court procedures.
- Proficiency in bankruptcy-specific software (e.g., Best Case, Clio) and case management tools.
- Solid understanding of legal terminology, court procedures, and document management in bankruptcy cases.
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with attorneys, clients, and third parties.
- Professional demeanor with the ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive client matters.
