Position Overview:
The Director of Youth Ministries (DYM) is a full-time core staff position sharing in the leadership of the congregation. The DYM will work closely with the Senior Associate Rector, the Director of Children’s Ministries, and a Youth Council comprised of a board of parent volunteers to create meaningful faith formation opportunities for youth and their families, including Sunday formation classes, retreats and pilgrimages, and a summer service project. The DYM is expected to function at a high level of personal and professional creativity and detail, to take initiative and responsibility for specific areas of ministry, and to work collaboratively with others. Essential Responsibilities:
The DYM leads a ministry with and for the youth of the church and the surrounding area. The DYM is called to draw upon their God-given gifts to lead and serve in the name of Jesus. The DYM will call the youth to discern their emerging gifts and identity, equip them for ministry and mission, and train them to be servants in their community. Essential responsibilities include walking with youth on the road to discipleship, nurturing a community of mutual support, and prayer. The DYM is responsible for the coordination, facilitation, and support of all youth formation and community building, including: Working collaboratively with the Senior Associate Rector and the Director of Children’s Ministries to implement a comprehensive Christian formation plan. Overseeing Sunday morning youth formation programs including Basecamp (7-8th grade) and Summit (9-12th grade). Training and communicating with Sunday morning formation adult leaders and equipping them to deliver Sunday formation classes. Coordinating with the parish Youth Council and church staff to plan and implement a calendar of youth events, including monthly Friday night youth parties, an annual lock-in, overnight retreats and pilgrimages, and liturgical events such as Youth Liturgy, Confirmation, and Rite 13. Maintaining and managing all modes of communication for youth ministries, including weekly email updates using Realm (cloud-based church management system), social media, and working with the Communications department for parish-wide communication. Managing registration and administration of youth ministry events through the Realm database. Planning and organizing a Summer Service Project, which is a week-long high school mission trip to Appalachia. Coordinating fundraisers as needed to support youth ministry projects. Managing the youth ministry budget. Supporting other ministries at St. Columba’s that engage youth, especially acolytes, sacristans, youth choirs, lay readers, and ushers. Providing parental support and education. Promoting participation in diocesan, regional and national youth events; and participating in diocesan and regional youth leader training opportunities. Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree, paid parish youth ministry experience, and/or some experience coordinating and executing mission trips with young people is preferred. We seek a candidate who is deeply committed to spiritually nourishing youth, passionate about helping grow their faith, and who can effectively communicate with and support their parents. A successful candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, able to take initiative, and can work effectively in a large staff system with many initiatives and overlapping teams. Remuneration:
Salary of $61,5000-70,000, commensurate with experience. Competitive benefits package provided, including medical, dental, 401K, and PTO. The position is full time.
