FWCD is seeking an enthusiastic professional who preferably has experience in a middle school educational setting. Reporting to the Director of Fine Arts and to the Head of Middle School, the Middle School Theatre Director will have experience teaching middle school theatre/musical theatre to middle school students.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Teach MS Theatre classes and direct at least one outside of class time musical.
- Can musical direct or choreograph an outside of class production.
- Help the Theatre Team to manage the props and costume spaces.
- Demonstrate excellent classroom management skills
- Be a team player who works well with others in the division and work collaboratively with the other members of the performing arts department.
- The ability to work with the Director of Fine Arts to develop a solid theatre and musical theatre program for all our middle school students.
- Help choose shows for our middle schoolers to perform.
- Demonstrate commitment to students’ success by offering extra help hours
- Perform other duties as assigned
The Ideal Candidate will:
- Be experienced in musical theatre, vocal instruction and have some piano ability.
- Be able to lead a full musical as a director incorporating either musical direction or choreography.
- Have either solid vocal or dance training along with theatre knowledge.
- Have an obvious passion for theatre and musical theatre and be able to share that with middle school students.
- Have excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Represent the school in a favorable manner
- Be energized by working with middle school-aged students
- Be knowledgeable of appropriate material for middle schoolers to work on.
Qualifications:
- Experience with middle school or upper school students in the field of theatre and musical theatre.
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree preferably in musical theatre or theatre with substantial musical theatre knowledge.
- Would prefer some professional experience in the theatre or musical theatre field.
