Overview

The Principal Financial Risk Officer is responsible for overseeing and managing the financial risk framework of the credit union, ensuring that risks related to liquidity, interest rates, credit, and capital are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and managed. This role plays a key part in maintaining the financial stability of the institution by implementing robust risk assessment frameworks and processes and providing strategic guidance to senior leadership.

Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive financial risk management framework in alignment with regulatory requirements and credit union objectives. Monitor and analyze financial risks, including liquidity risk, interest rate risk (IRR), credit risk, capital stress testing, and market risk, providing insights and recommendations to executive leadership. Lead the assessment of stress testing scenarios to evaluate the potential impact of economic and market fluctuations on the credit union's financial health. Work closely with the Asset-Liability Management Committee (ALCO) to provide risk insights and support strategic decision-making. Help ensure compliance with NCUA, FFIEC, and other regulatory guidelines related to financial risk management. Prepare and present risk reports to the ALCO and executive management, highlighting key risk exposures and mitigation strategies. Stay current with evolving regulatory requirements and industry leading practices, helping ensure that the credit union maintains a strong risk posture. Develop and enhance financial risk models to assess exposure to interest rate fluctuations, loan portfolio performance, and liquidity/capital constraints. Utilize financial modeling tools to simulate risk scenarios and support strategic planning initiatives. Collaborate with finance, treasury, lending, and Risk Management teams to optimize risk-adjusted returns. Serve as a key advisor to senior leadership, providing guidance on financial risk-related matters. Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate risk considerations into business strategy and operational planning. In-depth understanding of financial risk analysis techniques, economic trends, and regulatory frameworks. Proficiency in risk management, financial modeling tools, and data analytics platforms. Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to present complex risk concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Understand and comply with all applicable federal and state laws and banking regulations (including those related to OFAC and Bank Secrecy Act / Anti-Money Laundering compliance) and Patelco Credit Union's policies and procedures. Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Risk Management, or a related field (Master's degree preferred). 8+ years of experience in financial risk management, preferably in a credit union, bank, or financial institution. Strong knowledge of asset-liability management (ALM), liquidity risk management, and financial modeling. Experience working with regulatory bodies such as the NCUA, FDIC, or OCC. Preferred Certifications: Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Financial Risk Manager (FRM) Certified Risk Professional (CRP) This role is based in Dublin HQ Target Base Pay

$132,197 - $165,255 / per year
