Job Description
SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Budget and Planning, the Data Analyst plays a key role in supporting the University’s budget planning processes by collecting, interpreting, and presenting financial and statistical data. This position ensures data-driven insights are available to inform strategic decisions aligned with the University’s mission.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Utilize software such as Workday, Adaptive Insights, Banner Student, Cognos Analytics, Tableau, and Excel to analyze the financial impact of student enrollment, personnel headcount, and other key metrics.
- Collaborate with departments including Information Technology, Institutional Research, Finance, Student Accounts, Human Resources, and external entities to gather and validate data.
- Assist in the administration and development of Adaptive Insights, ensuring seamless integration with Workday financial and HR systems.
- Develop and present budget reports, charts, and visualizations for senior leadership, the Board of Trustees, and external stakeholders.
- Represent the Budget Office in University-wide development of data standards.
- Contribute to the preparation of the University’s annual operating budget and long-term financial projections.
- Conduct benchmarking analysis of tuition and fees compared to peer institutions to support tuition-setting decisions.
- Coordinate and compile data for the University’s annual budget submission to the State of New Jersey’s Office of Management and Budget.
- Ensure compliance with University policies and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in data analysis, statistics, research analytics, information science, financial reporting/analysis, finance, or accounting.
- Minimum three years of experience in complex data and/or statistical analysis and reporting, preferably in a University setting.
- Hands on experience with data systems/software administration and configurations.
- Advanced skills in Excel, charts, graphs, PowerPoint.
- Superior attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and learn new systems.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to present complex data clearly and effectively.
PREFERRED:
- A Master’s degree or MBA in data analysis, statistics, research analytics, information science, financial reporting/analysis, finance, or accounting.
- An understanding of accounting principles and budgeting processes.
- Experience with Banner Student, Tableau, and Cognos.
