The Custodian is responsible for major floor care projects, public area cleaning, activity/event set-up and breakdown, and trash disposal; working with other environmental team members and assisting with requests and dispatching work among the other team members; and communicating with the other shift custodians.

Part-Time: Friday, Saturday, & Sunday 7:00 am- 3:30 pm

  • $21/hr Based on experience

PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

  • Maintains floors and carpets within the Community.
  • Picks up and removes trash from trash rooms, offices, and other locations within the Community.
  • Cleans all public areas.
  • Provides preventive maintenance to housekeeping machines such as vacuums, carpet shampooers, and floor machines.
  • Completes all meeting room setups in the auditorium, arts and crafts room, lobby, etc.
  • Maintains all exterior grounds and amenities throughout the shift.
  • Properly utilizes all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required to perform specific job duties.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor including but not limited to daily operations of laundry services with the Environmental Services Department.
  • Team player.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous janitor experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions in English, communicate effectively, and perform simple arithmetic.
  • Previous floor maintenance experience strongly preferred but not required. Knowledge of floor care procedures, techniques, and supplies preferred but not required.
  • Willingness to perform routine, repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to drive utility vehicles.
  • Hospitality – greets residents with a smile, makes eye contact, and is friendly.
  • CA Driver License.

CRITICAL FUNCTION:

  • This position is essential to the safety of our residents and staff; and to the operation and function of the community. Employee may be recalled to report to work for an emergency, unusual occurrence, resident care need, visit from regulatory/governing agencies, or any other event deemed necessary by the Executive Director, Administrator, and designee.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Moderate to heavy physical effort 95% of the work day. Must be able to stoop, bend, stretch, squat, stand, and walk for up to 8 hours per day. Must be able to stoop and work from a kneeling position, perform repetitive bending, reaching, and stretching. Must be able to operate a vacuum, work in confined spaces around furniture and breakable objects, and have constant contact with residents. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. When lifting loads over 50 lbs, use two or more people. It is your responsibility to ask for assistance. Must be able to push and/or pull wheeled carts and equipment generally weighing up to 300 lbs over tiled and carpeted surfaces for long distances. May be exposed to communicable diseases including HIV and Hepatitis B viruses; industrial and household chemicals; offensive odors; and high heat levels.
