Job title: Mechanical engineer
Job Summary: We seek an innovative and skilled mechanical Engineer to play a pivotal role in designing and developing mechanical parts and systems that will comprise our thermochemical energy storage product. Technical expertise and innovation are essential to transfer laboratory prototypes to a ruggedized product for field installation. 5+ years experience is desired.
Responsibilities:
System Design & Development:
- Provide technical expertise in mechanical design.
- Design and develop mechanical systems for high-temperature equipment, heat exchangers, and thermal management components.
- Test and assess theoretical designs.
- Find, create, and implement efficient solutions to new problems.
- Alter and adjust design to fulfill requirements and eradicate malfunctions.
Thermal & Structural Analysis:
- Perform thermal, structural, and mechanical analyses (e.g., FEA, CFD) to ensure the safe and efficient operation of storage systems under high-temperature and pressure conditions.
Material Selection:
- Identify and select suitable materials for high-temperature applications, considering thermal conductivity, durability, and corrosion resistance for long-lasting performance.
Testing & Validation:
- Develop and conduct experimental tests to validate mechanical design, thermal efficiency, and safety standards of energy storage systems, analyzing data to guide iterative improvements.
- Collaborate with Research and Development team to ensure design feasibility.
Prototyping & Fabrication Support:
- Oversee the fabrication of prototypes, working with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are accurately translated from models to physical systems.
- Conduct testing and analysis to validate the functionality and safety of designs.
Efficiency Optimization:
- Innovate ways to optimize heat transfer and retention to increase the energy density and overall efficiency of thermochemical storage systems.
Safety & Compliance:
- Stay updated with industry trends, technological advancements, and relevant codes.
- Ensure designs and processes comply with industry standards and safety regulations related to high-temperature and high-pressure environments.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Methodically analyze data and evaluate outcomes.
- Prepare detailed documentation, technical reports, and design specifications. Communicate findings, recommendations, and design improvements to stakeholders and engineering teams.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, thermal Engineering, or related field.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in CAD and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, SolidWorks, COMSOL) for design, FEA, and CFD analysis.
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics.
- Familiarity with high-temperature materials and thermochemical reactions.
Problem solving skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in experimental testing and iterative design.
Communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities to convey technical concepts and design insights.
Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and precision in design and testing phases.
Working Conditions:
Environment: This role involves a combination of lab-based and fieldwork. Some exposure to high-temperature environments is expected.
Collaboration: Frequent collaboration with R&D, manufacturing, and other engineering teams.
Preferred skills:
- Experience with thermochemical systems, energy storage technologies, or thermal power generation.
- Knowledge of sustainability practices and lifecycle analysis for mechanical systems in the energy sector.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to high-temperature systems and energy storage.
