Information Technology Support Technician
Purpose:
Colonna's Shipyard is seeking an Information Technology Support Technician to support our business operational needs in Norfolk, VA.
The IT Support Technician will provide technical assistance to computer system users and may provide assistance concerning the use of computer hardware and software, including printing, installation, word processing, electronic mail, and operating systems.
Job Description: Provide technical assistance to computer system users. Install and perform minor repairs to hardware, software, and peripheral equipment, following design or installation specifications. Set up equipment for employee use, performing or ensuring proper installation of cable, operating systems, and appropriate software. Maintain a record of daily data communication transactions, problems and remedial action taken, and installation activities. Read technical manuals, confer with users, and conduct computer diagnostics to investigate and resolve problems and to provide technical assistance and support. Troubleshooting printers/scanners/copiers as needed. Repair and upgrade PC hardware and software as needed. Maintaining inventory of equipment and supplies (cables, adapters, etc.). Installs, configures, and maintains a variety of computer equipment including computer terminals, printers, modems, personal computers and data communications equipment. Diagnose software and hardware problems. Interacts with external vendors regarding the procurement and repair of hardware. Effectively communicate IT-related information when necessary; communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully to approved parties. Performs routine preventive maintenance on hardware and software. Answer users' inquiries regarding computer software and hardware operation to resolve problems.
Qualifications:
Must have a high school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified, specifically infrastructure experience. Must have strong technical knowledge of network and PC operating systems, current network hardware, protocols, and standards. Must have support experience with most Microsoft products, design software, and print software. Must have experience with Deltek accounting programs, and security badge Identipass software. Must have In-depth knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws Must have a thorough understanding and hands on experience with troubleshooting in all areas of computing and experience with a wide variety of PC's. Must be able to demonstrate reliability in attendance, project completion, and organization through consistent performance and attendance. Must have strong problem-solving skills and excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience at Colonna's highly preferred.
Travel Requirements:
Minimal Travel; 10% or less.
Physical Requirements:
Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Squat, Climb, Reach, Push and Pull, Stoop, Crawl, Kneel, Balance, Lift and Carry various objects and equipment. General office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require standing and walking for up to 50% of the time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available, but also requires safe navigation and regular partnership with operations teams within shipyard/industrial environments. Movement through the yard often requires personal protective equipment. Lighting an temperature are adequate and there is minimal exposure to unpleasant conditions cause by noise and dust.
