$60,000.00/yr - $85,000.00/yr Betty Shabazz International Charter School (BSICS) is looking to hire dynamic teachers for the 2025-26 school year with an Illinois Professional Educator License endorsed in middle school english language arts (ELA) OR who have passed the ISBE Middle School ELA Test. Established in 1998, BSICS is a network comprised of two K-8 Chicago elementary campuses. Our Betty Shabazz Academy campus is located at 7823 S. Ellis Ave in Greater Grand Crossing. Our Barbara A. Sizemore Academy campus is located at 6547 S. Stewart Ave in Englewood. Our academic model incorporates history, culture and STEM as well as community service and character development into all aspects of our rigorous curriculum, school routines and physical environments. As a result, daily, our students are taught that with historical understanding, culture, community, planning, proper values, discipline, and individual and collective work they can overcome any challenge, academically excel and become transformational, next generation, global leaders. Responsibilities
Instructors hired to teach ELA at BSICS are expected to: Embrace the Making Thinking Visible Framework. Demonstrate they possess the content knowledge required to use our rigorous customized ELA curriculum and workbooks with fidelity as well as an ability to effectively transfer this understanding to students. Know how to use a variety of individualized and small group strategies to move students at different levels simultaneously towards grade-level attainment. Evidence classroom management practices that foster respect as well as affirm and inspire students to become self-confident, independent, successful learners. Analyze student classroom data to focus and drive whole class and individualized instruction. Possess the patience and skills to effectively interact with students in need of social-emotional supports. The staff at Betty Shabazz is truly a Village of dynamic and experienced teachers committed to working together to help each other address all challenges to daily, successful teaching and student learning. Hired teachers will continuously grow in their instructional practices through regular participation with other teachers and staff in professional development activities, department meetings, observations of teaching videos and coaching sessions. Also, all ELA teachers hired are provided with supports to achieve personal professional pursuits in their field. Applicant Characteristics
