Director of Youth Ministry

Director of Youth Ministry is responsible for leading the Youth Ministry consisting of 20-30 youth in grades 6-12. The director is responsible for leading the spiritual development of the youth by planning and overseeing activities like Bible studies, worship services, and social events, while building strong relationships with teenagers and their families, often by recruiting and training volunteers to assist in the ministry.
The Director of Youth Ministry is a vital role in the church, looking after the spiritual wellbeing and growth of our youth before they head off on their post-secondary endeavors.
Key responsibilities of the Director of Youth Ministry may include:
Spiritual Leadership:
Leading Sunday youth worship services and teaching Bible studies.
Facilitating discussions on faith and life application.
Providing mentorship and guidance to youth on spiritual growth.
Program Development:
Planning and coordinating on and off-site youth events, including off-site retreats, union community service projects, and social gatherings.
Researching engaging curriculum for youth programs.
Relationship Building:
Developing strong connections with the youth and their families by being “proximate”, available, building relationships with youth and parents, and through regular communication, PTA meetings and weekly email announcements.
Building relationships with church staff and other ministry leaders.
Recruiting, training, and managing a team of youth volunteers
Leadership and Management:
Leading youth leadership teams - Student Leadership Team (SLT) and fostering youth involvement in ministry
Managing administrative tasks related to youth ministry, including record-keeping and reporting
Together with pastoral staff, make sure youth volunteers receive Child Safety Training
Willing to attend training courses for professional development
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Strong Christian faith with a growing walk with Jesus.
Good reputation with the local church, peers and the public.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Leadership abilities and experience working with teenagers
Creative thinking and ability to plan engaging activities
Understanding of youth development and challenges
Bachelor's Degree
Attending seminary and/or has a calling to be trained in seminary.
Youth Ministry experience preferred or similar work experience with youth.
