What Qualifications You'll Need:

  • Licensed in the state of Pennsylvania as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse or Emergency Medical Technician (or other appropriate training as approved by the Executive Leader).
  • Ability to originate, update, and/or monitor health care, maintain records, and implement the health care plan.
  • Desire and ability to work with children and adults in a camp setting.
  • Current CPR and first aid certification.
  • Good character, integrity, and adaptability.

What You'll Do:

  • Assist in training all staff in their emergency and first aid responsibilities.
  • Conduct staff/camper arrival screenings according to the camp’s guidelines.
  • Collect and administer all staff/camper medications according to the doctor’s prescribed orders and Pennsylvania’s Laws and Regulations.
  • Give first aid treatment to all camp staff and campers.
  • Maintain an orderly, clean, sanitized Health Lodge.
  • Maintain camper/staff health forms in an easily accessible, orderly form in the health lodge.
  • Maintain a health logbook of all first aid, medication, etc. given.
  • Conduct daily sick call and follow up with all staff/campers as needed from assessment during sick call.
  • Refer all cases to Camp Physician as per standing orders signed by that physician.
  • Schedule all required doctor’s visits for staff/campers and follow through on the care required as per visit.
  • Assure that all paperwork (bills, etc.) for a doctor’s visit or pharmacy run is collected and delivered in a timely manner to the main office staff.
  • Liaison between camper/staff parents as per our health care policies and procedures.
  • Maintain an inventory of medical supplies on hand at all times and assure proper coverage of supplies.
  • Maintain stocked first aid kits at locations designated in camp’s risk management policy and per Camp Director.
  • Key player in the health emergency procedures as outlined in the risk management procedures. Be familiar with and able to implement this procedure.
  • Complete necessary accident/incident reports on all emergencies or special care situations. Monitor these reports for repeat occurrences and notify the Camp Director.
  • Provide general health care tips and knowledge to staff and campers throughout the summer as situations arise.
  • Prepare an evaluation and summary of current season including inventories, end of summer report, and recommendations for the following season.
  • Assist in defining and monitoring the crisis/risk management plan, including emergency procedures especially as related to respective camp.
  • Assist in monitoring safety and all procedures as they pertain to the complete supervision of all campers and staff.
  • Help provide an atmosphere for developing good morals and well-being among the camp family.
  • These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required.
  • Ability to communicate and work with individuals or groups participating in summer camp, and provide necessary health care instruction to campers, parents, and staff.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to emergencies, first aid assessments, environmental and other hazards related to all summer camp activities.
  • Ability to communicate and train staff and campers in safety regulations and emergency procedures as pertain to the health care of all participants.
  • Ability to become First Aid and CPR Certified.
  • Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations.
  • Must be able to assess camper/staff health conditions and treat them according to the health care procedures.
  • Ability to identify and respond to hazards, weather emergencies, etc.
