Overview
E2 is hiring a Welding Inspector to use their in-depth knowledge of welding processes, testing methods, discontinuities, materials, qualifications, and standards to ensure that weldments and related activities meet all relevant quality and safety criteria. They are responsible for verifying that welding procedures are properly qualified and followed, that radiographers are certified, and that welders meet the necessary qualifications. Additionally, inspectors ensure that sound welds are made, and that proper documentation is maintained. These tasks must be carried out in accordance with applicable codes, company standards, specifications, and construction drawings.
Responsibilities
Welding Inspector roles and responsibilities shall include:
- Be familiar with the approved construction drawings and Company specifications.
- Understanding welding techniques, welding positions, welding consumables, weld preparation, and welding-inspection documentation requirements.
- Complete, submit, and maintain applicable inspection reports daily that accurately describe the work performed on the project in a manner that the welds inspected may subsequently be identified per current standards.
- Ensure all proposed design changes and/or material substitutions are discussed with the Construction Manager/Project Manager and that proper approvals are obtained prior to proceeding with work.
- Verify all materials used are in compliance with Company requirements.
- Possess an understanding of the relationship between quality assurance, quality control and inspection procedures.
- Assure welding procedures are established, and each welder is qualified for the work they are performing.
- Monitor the quality of the welds being made to ensure sound welds are being made at all joints.
- Verify all weld repairs are made in accordance with applicable codes and Company specifications.
- Perform duties designated by the Chief Inspector in accordance with the job requirements outlined in the assigned activity and contract specification.
- Ensure safety measures are followed. Communicates safety issues to the inspection team. Addresses safety concerns and escalates safety issues to the Chief Inspector or Construction Manager.
- Responsible for tracking all materials used for pipeline construction including joint numbers, joint lengths and heat numbers associated with all materials (pipe stock, fittings, etc.).
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) through the American Welding Society or a Certified Pipe Welding Inspector (CPWI) with documented and verifiable work experience related to transmission/process piping and API-1104 and API-1169.
Qualifications
Minimum requirements:
- 3 years’ experience required in related field of piping, fittings or valve as it relates to welding.
- Must possess either Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) through the American Welding Society or Certified Pipe Welding Inspector (CPWI) through NWIS.
- Fundamental knowledge of ASME, API, and ASTM codes and specifications.
- Must be able to pass a drug test and background check.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and authorized to work in U.S.
- Must possess a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
- Must be able to clearly communicate with other team members and client personnel.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Desired requirements:
- 5+ years’ experience required in related field of piping, fittings or valve as it relates to welding.
- Proficient with computers and portable electronic tablets and supporting software applications, such as Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of quality assurance terminology, methods, and tools.
- Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of testing best practices, version control practices and defect management practices.

Wage Data Per State Requirements
Hourly rate for this position is $58.00 - $66.00. The starting rate will be commensurate with skill, education, experience, and working environment.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
- Construction Sites and/or Client Right-of-Way (R.O.W.).
- Client testing facility (occasionally).
- Corporate office (occasionally).
- May require extensive driving to reach job sites and/or client/E2 offices.
- Frequent ascending and descending of ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms up in and out of pipeline bell-hole/trench/excavation.
- Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces.
- Lifting objects in excess of 50 pounds from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.
- Ability to perform visual inspection of construction crew quality of work; using measuring devices; and/or assembly of fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.
- Able to perform in both inside and outside environmental conditions in all four seasons throughout the continental United States – extreme cold (temperatures below 32 degrees Fahrenheit) and/or extreme heat (temperatures above 100 degrees Fahrenheit) for periods of more than one hour.
Travel
May require extensive driving to reach job sites and/or client/E2 offices.
