Job Description
Monitors and directs the operation of Vistra’s generation resources as efficiently and economically as possible in accordance with guidelines to meet real time market requirements.
Key Accountabilities:
•Communicates with Hourly Traders
•Monitors continuously generation requirements and generation output levels ensuring real-time obligations are met via AGC, balancing energy deployments, other market deployments and ancillary service obligations
•Ensures fleet runs at most cost-effective level via GCS
•Optimize the commercialization of solar and energy storage
•Maintains accurate and timely unit data via accumulators and integrators
•Maintains voltage support as requested by transmission
•Maintains appropriate unit dispatch to manage both zonal and local congestion and transmission outages
•Interfaces with plant personnel to specify unit start and stop times, real-time unit deployments, and current status of units
•Ensures ancillary service obligations and deployments are carried/maintained on units in most cost-effective manner
•Operates generation fleet within specified protocol guidelines specifically related to ACE and controlling frequency
•Maintains accurate and timely generation planning worksheet
•Maintains accurate and timely daily generation log
•Anticipates critical operating conditions and takes steps to avoid problems through the re-dispatch of units
•Anticipates and responds to changing system conditions of balancing energy deployments to effectively and economically dispatch fleet
•Recognizes changing market conditions and initiates appropriate action
Education, Experience & Skill Requirements
•3 years experience in physical powerplant operations or dispatch
•High school diploma or equivalent
•Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skills
Key Metrics
•Specific Market Portal experience
•Proficient in Microsoft excel
•12-hour shift schedule which includes days, nights, weekends and holidays
•MISO/CAISO market experience
•Experience in solar and battery storage
