Job Description
STC is a science and engineering research and services support company with proven expertise and experience spanning research, development, test, and evaluation in areas including aerospace engineering, earth and atmospheric sciences, chemical and biological defense, military systems and technology, and software development.
Employment Category: Full Time / Exempt Location: Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD, Travel: Minimal Security Clearance: DoD Secret Eligible Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen Responsibilities:
The Research Chemist will plan, direct, and conduct research related to chemical and biological detection and identification, including basic research, applications, and instrumentation to support the DoD efforts to protect our Warfighters from toxic chemicals and explosives. Research will include the development of algorithms, system design, lab and field work, data analysis, and publication of results. Work as part of a government scientific team developing and updating these sensors and detectors.
Provide subject matter expertise and lead/support team research efforts using optical spectroscopy for CB detection and identification. Support theoretical research of fundamental concepts and algorithm development. Plan and conduct research projects for CB point and remote detection and identification, perform data analysis, and test developmental systems in the lab and field. Operate and maintain analytical instrumentation. Remain current on related subjects in the literature and news. Contribute to presentations, technical reports, and research publications. Compensation & Benefits:
Pay: From $78K - $88K per year based on experience and qualifications Schedule: 40 hours per week 401K with up to 4% employer matching contribution 2 weeks (80 hrs/year) Paid Time Off (PTO), Federal holidays, and Sick Leave Comprehensive Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance, Short Term/Long Term Disability Job Requirements
Education:
Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related discipline Requirements
U.S. Citizen eligible for a security clearance 4 years' research experience related to spectroscopic studies, sensors, signal processing, and/or integrating sphere-assisted spectroscopy (coursework/Ph.D. research applies) Proficiency with Python, Java, and another object-oriented language Proficient with MATLAB or LabVIEW Expertise with operating and maintaining instruments including UV-Vis spectrophotometer, Raman, and GC-MS Excellent oral and written communication skills in English Demonstrated ability to learn new skills quickly, multitask, and complete work within schedule Bonus points if you have:
Experience with both chemical and biological detection/identification DoD Secret clearance
