Position Summary: The Engineering Manager will oversee and manage a team of 3 designers, including:
Fire Alarm Designer
(with a Junior CAD Designer/Operator) Special Hazards Designer Sprinkler Designer The Engineering Manager is responsible for optimizing design processes, improving team efficiency, and ensuring high-quality project execution. This role serves as the primary liaison between the Engineering team and other departments, facilitating necessary support and resources. Additionally, the Engineering Manager oversees project intake, manages external project requirements, and ensures seamless coordination beyond core engineering functions. This position requires a strategic leader with expertise in life safety systems, project management, and proficiency in CAD tools and industry-specific software. Key Responsibilities: Team Leadership & Management:
Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 3 designers and a junior CAD designer/operator. Foster a collaborative and productive work environment that encourages professional growth and development. Oversee design workflow, ensuring timely and accurate project deliverables. Conduct performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and set clear goals.
Design Process & Efficiency: Develop and implement efficient design processes and best practices to enhance productivity. Ensure design outputs are compliant with relevant life safety codes and industry standards. Coordinate with external partners for design approvals and stamping. Maintain a high standard of design quality and accuracy.
Small Projects Group Leadership: Establish the structure and processes for the newly formed small projects group. Drive project acquisition efforts for small projects. Collaborate with sales and project management teams to secure new business opportunities. Monitor project progress, budgets, and timelines to ensure successful delivery.
Technical Expertise & Project Management: Provide technical guidance and support in fire alarm, special hazards, and sprinkler systems design. Utilize knowledge of life safety systems to inform design and project decisions. Manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring on-time and within-budget delivery. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals and client satisfaction.
Software & Technology: Utilize AutoCAD for design and layout coordination. Leverage Salesforce for project tracking and client communication. Apply Hydro CAD and other relevant MFG software to support design accuracy and efficiency. Promote the use of advanced design tools and technologies within the team.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related field. Experience:
8-10 years of experience in engineering management, with a focus on life safety systems (fire alarms, special hazards, or sprinklers). Technical Skills:
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Salesforce, Microsoft Office Suite, Hydro CAD, and other MFG software. Leadership Skills:
Proven experience managing and developing high-performance design teams. Project Management:
Strong background in project management, including budget and timeline oversight. Communication:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Problem-Solving:
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a strategic approach to decision-making. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in fire protection or life safety systems design and management. Familiarity with industry regulations, codes, and standards (e.g., NFPA). Knowledge of CAD processes and collaboration with CAD employees. Experience in business development and client relationship management. Benefits
