Tallavera is currently seeking a Pharmacist for a 1 year travel contract in Pago Pago, American Samoa. As a Pharmacist, you will be responsible for the preparation and dispensation of medications, providing valuable advice and information to patients and healthcare providers, and ensuring the safe and effective use of pharmaceutical products. This role will encompass both clinical and administrative duties, requiring a strong understanding of pharmacology, drug interactions, and the regulatory standards governing pharmaceutical practice. Practice will include Inpatient and Outpatient services. The ideal candidate must be adaptable to the culture and practices of the patients and community served.
Responsibilities of the Pharmacist:
- Accurately prepare and dispense prescription medications to patients, ensuring correct dosages, and providing clear instructions for use.
- Offer professional advice and guidance to patients on the proper use of medications, potential side effects, and interactions with other drugs or medical conditions.
- Conduct thorough reviews of patients’ medication histories and collaborate with healthcare providers to optimize medication therapy and improve patient outcomes.
- Maintain an organized inventory of medications and pharmaceutical supplies, including the monitoring of stock levels, expiration dates, and the ordering of new supplies as needed.
- Ensure all pharmacy operations comply with state and federal regulations, including the proper storage and handling of medications, record-keeping, and reporting requirements.
- Prepare specialized medications by mixing ingredients to create customized prescriptions when necessary.
- Provide educational materials and conduct information sessions for patients on topics such as chronic disease management, healthy lifestyle choices, and preventive care.
- Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to patient care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and conduct regular audits to ensure the highest standards of pharmacy practice are maintained.
Requirements of the Pharmacist:
- Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited pharmacy school.
- Valid pharmacist license.
- Previous experience in a clinical or retail pharmacy setting is preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.
- Proficiency in using pharmacy management software and other relevant technology.
- Strong knowledge of pharmacology, drug interactions, and medical terminology.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, handle and move medications, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
