We are looking for an experienced and motivated Sous Chef to join our kitchen team and assist in managing daily operations.
Job Overview:
The Sous Chef will assist the Executive Chef in overseeing kitchen operations, ensuring food quality, presentation, and adherence to food safety standards. This individual will lead and supervise kitchen staff, coordinate kitchen tasks, and ensure that the restaurants culinary standards are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in Menu Planning: Collaborate with the Executive Chef to plan and execute the menu, including daily specials and seasonal dishes.
Supervise Kitchen Staff: Supervise and train kitchen staff, including line cooks, prep cooks, and dishwashers. Ensure tasks are delegated effectively and completed on time.
Ensure Food Quality: Monitor food preparation and presentation to ensure the restaurants quality standards are upheld. Ensure all dishes meet consistency in taste, appearance, and portion size.
Maintain Health and Safety Standards: Ensure that all food safety standards, including sanitation, storage, and handling practices, are followed by the kitchen team. Conduct regular inspections of kitchen equipment and tools.
Inventory and Ordering: Oversee kitchen inventory and order supplies as needed. Maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure a steady flow of ingredients.
Manage Kitchen Operations: Assist in managing daily kitchen operations, including ensuring timely food preparation and communication between kitchen staff and front-of-house teams.
Assist in Staff Scheduling: Help the Executive Chef in creating schedules for kitchen staff, ensuring coverage during peak hours and time off as needed.
Assist with Cost Control: Help manage kitchen expenses by ensuring portion control, minimizing waste, and maintaining budgeted food costs.
Handle Customer Feedback: Address any customer complaints regarding food and work with the Executive Chef to resolve issues quickly and professionally.
Qualifications:
Proven experience as a Sous Chef, Junior Sous Chef, or in a similar role in a high-volume restaurant, private resort, or hospitality setting.
Culinary degree or equivalent training is preferred.
Strong knowledge of kitchen operations, including food preparation, health and safety regulations, and sanitation practices.
Ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work under pressure.
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Passion for food and creating an exceptional dining experience.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work in a hot and noisy kitchen environment.
Willingness to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure setting.
