Director of Music Position
St. Monica Catholic Church, Dallas, TX, is seeking a full-time Director of Music to lead a vibrant music ministry in this large and active North Dallas parish. The newly appointed Director of Music will lead a music program that has thrived in the past 17 years, contributing to growth in congregational singing, congregational participation in all Masses, and the growth of the St. Monica Choir, including 9 paid section leaders – all incorporating a variety of musical styles and traditions. An active concert series, St. Monica Fine Arts, is anchored by an annual Christmas Concert and a Patriotic Concert accompanied by orchestra and/or other instrumental ensembles. A commitment to the celebration of the Mass with outstanding music support and contribution is desired for this position.
St. Monica is home to a 4-manual 72-rank Nichols & Simpson pipe organ (2014), a Schimmel K230 Konzert grand piano (2021), and 2 digital practice organs. In conjunction with a Music Administrator, an Organist, directors for Spanish and Youth/Contemporary music groups, and a host of volunteers, the Director of Music has the opportunity to carry on the traditions established at St. Monica and nurture continued growth in music and fine arts for the parish.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Liturgy:
Work collaboratively with parish staff and volunteers to ensure that all liturgical music is carefully planned, well-prepared, and well-performed. Select and coordinate music for Saturday 5:00 Vigil Mass and Sunday Masses at 9:00 and 11:00. Participate in planning and coordinating music for all funerals and, along with the staff organist, weddings. Coordinate with outside musicians for these liturgies, when required. Select and coordinate music for all special liturgies of the parish, including, but not limited to, Holy Days of Obligation, Christmas Eve, Holy Week, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation. Coordinate supplemental musicians for special liturgies throughout the year. Support the School Music Staff for special liturgies of St. Monica School, including First Holy Communion, Confirmation, and Graduation when needed. Coordinate the functioning of the audio system during all Masses. Support livestreaming for Masses and funerals, weddings, and other events as needed. Select hymns with Organist’s assistance to build the parish’s hymn repertoire. St. Monica Adult Choir: Serve as the Director of the St. Monica Adult Choir Select repertoire and prepare the choir for all liturgies and other performances. Recruit, train and coordinate choir volunteers. Provide for social and team building opportunities for participants. St. Monica Adult Handbell Choir: Serve as Director of the Adult Handbell Choir Direct the St. Monica Adult Handbell Choir, playing for Masses and seasonal concerts. Music Staff Leadership: Coordinate music staff and volunteers. Recruit, train, and coordinate professional section leaders for the St. Monica Choir, when needed. Coordinate choir directors and other musicians of the parish, including the Director of Contemporary Music, Spanish Choir Director, Organist, A/V techs. Coordinate payroll for all music staff. Participate with Pastor in evaluation of all music staff. St. Monica Fine Arts: Provide vision and leadership for the St. Monica Fine Arts Program. Recruit and coordinate members of the St. Monica Fine Arts Committee to oversee Fine Arts fundraising and budget. Plan, oversee, direct, and promote all Fine Arts events in the parish. Work with Fine Arts Committee to plan year, prepare for fundraising, and assist with events. General Staff Responsibilities: Maintain and oversee budgets and expenditures relating to music and the arts. Regularly monitor and review budget with Parish Business Manager. Participate in staff meetings. Participate in special staff committees as requested by the Pastor. Work with Communications Director on social media. Additional responsibilities: Coordinate maintenance of parish musical instruments – tuning and maintenance of the organs and pianos. Serve as organist for Masses during the week. First refusal for funerals during the week (compensation for funerals is outside of the salary). Any other duties as assigned by Pastor. Position Requirements: Strong computer skills:
Technology skills, in particular familiarity with MS Office and A/V and livestream technology. Education and Experience:
Masters Degree in Music, choral emphasis preferred. 5 years in a successful church music ministry program. Special Requirements:

Some lifting and moving of items is required, i.e., concert set up assistance.
