21690 Position – Senior Director, Global Government and External Affairs (North America) McCain Foods is looking for a Senior Director, Government and External Affairs to develop and deliver our North American public affairs strategy. Working from McCain’s Oakbrook office, the successful candidate will directly report into the Vice President, Global External Affairs and Sustainability who is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of stakeholder and government relations, advocacy and external communications strategies. The successful candidate will also indirectly report to the Regional President, North America. As a member of the External Affairs and Sustainability team, the selected candidate will provide leadership and direction for the business regarding corporate reputation, external communications, proactive and reactive media engagements, stakeholder and government relations. The role will include the creation and implementation of campaigns to support and enable company growth while protecting and enhancing McCain’s brand and corporate reputation. The selected candidate will be responsible for overseeing McCain’s government relations and public relations agendas in both Canada and the U.S., with tailored regional plans in locations that McCain operates. Role Overview The successful candidate will implement a change management agenda that elevates how McCain pursues government relations and public relations across North America. The candidate will be responsible for developing a strategic plan for external communications, with a focus in building brand vibrancy and reputation in the U.S., including proactive strategy to handle crisis communications, community relations and brand reputation externally. Below are several desired tenets for our approach: Proactive:

Identify external trends and opportunities to advance our corporate reputation and regulatory agenda. Monitor external environment (i.e., political, public opinion, business shifts) to identify and respond to emerging issues and changes in community and opinion leaders. Consistent:

Lead and coordinate with regional Senior Leadership team (and other functions) to ensure a common communications and public affairs agenda regionally and globally. Anticipate implications of actions/media on other regions. Collaborative:

Cultivate external partnerships (especially with farmer groups) who can act as champions and regional spokespeople for McCain’s business. Educate officials on business model (and economic benefits) in anticipation of future challenges. Maintain and manage a network of 3rd party consultants, lobbyists to effectively convey the company’s message to legislative and other external audiences. Value-based:

Lead efforts to maintain, protect and enhance the company’s corporate reputation and image. Leverage external communications, showcase company priorities (e.g., sustainability), and support leadership relationships to remove barriers to business and influence stakeholders. Key Accountabilities Develop strategy at the federal, provincial/state and municipal levels, including clearly defined objectives, plans and programs in support of government relations and public relations objectives. Organize and execute crisis communication management framework and priorities, with seat on North American crisis management committee. Provide oversight of external communications: community engagement, media engagements, public affairs, brand and corporate reputation through public relations, stakeholder engagement and crisis management. Act as a regional spokesperson and public face for McCain pertinent to stories or issues that are relevant to identified role and responsibilities while working with the Director of Global Communications & Reputation for approvals and support. Provide strategic counsel on communications strategies. Foster relationships with key government contacts to ensure McCain has full knowledge of government initiatives and programs across North America, primarily focused in U.S. Lead and maintain relationships with other executives across multiple sectors to stay up-to-date on current events, politics and public policy issues. Advocate on behalf of the organization, as well as representing the organization at external meetings with politicians and policy makers. Participate in various government meetings, consultations, roundtables and conferences. Draft government correspondence, pre-budget submissions, position papers and policy language. Knowledge and Experience: 10 + years’ interacting with U.S. government and regulatory bodies, with preference for specific time spent in politics/government (Canadian government exposure is also desired) 10 + years’ experience in corporate environment managing regulatory affairs Extensive corporate strategy and crisis management communication experience Experience cultivating industry stakeholder groups – industry, farmer, union Corporate communications expertise with global communications experience preferred Understanding of the federal, state/provincial and/or municipal government legislative, regulatory and public policy process and the differences/similarities between them Experience working in a matrix environment and driving results through influence McCain Foods is an equal opportunity employer.
