Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The RN assists in the daily clinical operations of the ASC in accordance with established Federal, State, and accreditation standards and center policies and procedures. Participates in direct patient care including maintaining a clean, orderly and safe environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following:

  1. Patient care in the preoperative and postoperative areas
  2. Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
  3. Coordinates planned nursing care with other health care team members
  4. Prepares preoperative and postoperative areas for patient care
  5. Prepares patients for surgical procedures, according to physician orders
  6. Monitors patients’ vital signs, breathing, alertness, awareness following surgical procedure
  7. Preoperative and postoperative assessment and patient education
  8. Maintains a high standard of safety for patients in preoperative and postoperative areas
  9. Performs interventions necessary to ensure that the patient’s procedure is performed on the correct site, side, and level
  10. Manages the patient’s specimens in the appropriate manner
  11. Communicates the patient’s current status to the appropriate parties throughout the continuum of care
  12. Administers medications safely and correctly
  13. Performs interventions to protect the patient from surgical site infection
  14. Protects the patient’s rights, dignity, and privacy
  15. Provides culturally and age-appropriate, ethical care within legal standards of practice
  16. Transfers care as appropriate
  17. Assists with preoperative and postoperative phone calls to patients
  18. Delegates tasks as appropriate according to the state Nurse Practice Act and job descriptions
  19. Documents nursing care accurately, completely, and legibly
  20. Participates in quality review and performance improvement projects
  21. Participates in the performance appraisal process
  22. Uses problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members
  23. Maintains required competencies
  24. Acts as a patient advocate and maintains privacy and confidentiality of all appropriate information
  25. Completes all required compliance training

  8. Working knowledge and hospital or ambulatory surgery center, experience in PACU, including direct patient care
  9. Knowledge of patient monitoring equipment
  10. Ability to adhere to work schedule and manage time appropriately
  11. Ability to utilize resources in a timely, organized and cost-effective manner
  12. Good computer skills including use of standard office programs
  13. Ability to operate standard office equipment
  14. Ability to speak, read, and write in English
  15. Ability to work well under pressure and accept additional assignments willingly
  16. Ability to work flexible hours as needed to accommodate workload
  17. Ability to concentrate, think, and learn
  18. Ability to hear, see, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, lift, push and pull

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Must possess updated licensure for state in which facility is located; Two (2) years of clinical experience preferred, with emphasis in PACU, surgery, or ER; IV skills required. BLS required. ACLS required. All employees must be able to provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States.
