JOB SUMMARY :

**** Pay range: $21.00 - $24.00 Hourly ****

The Health Educator position teaches middle and high schoolers inclusive, holistic, and comprehensive

sexual health education. Contact Plus is a sexual health education program that teaches young people to

(1) identify and practice components of healthy relationships in all aspects of life, (2) develop

knowledge and tools to inform decision making about sexual health information, including safe sex

practices, STIs and pregnancy prevention, and how to access resources and (3) cultivate a healthy sense

of themselves and others. Contact Plus is queer and trans-inclusive, trauma-informed, culturally

relevant, anti-oppressive, and sex positive.

During the school year, the Health Educator teaches small groups during the school day at various

schools in the metro area. In the summer this position teaches at community-based sites and supports

other youth programs in the Girls & Youth Department

The Health Educator will provide direct service to students, support curriculum development, prepare

lessons/activities, and contribute to partnership engagement with school staff and families.

Salary :

$21.00-$24.00/hour depending on qualifications and experience

Hours :

40 hours/week, generally 8:00am-5:00pm

Location at various sites, schools, YWCA Midtown office and remote

Shifts and sites vary based on program need

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

Implement Comprehensive Programming : Plan, prepare, and facilitate age appropriate and culturally sensitive educational activities utilizing sexual health education curriculum and other Girls & Youth curriculum Create and maintain a safe learning environment that is student-centered, mission-focused, and accessible to a diverse student body Recruit and maintain program participants by providing program presentations to schools and youth serving agencies Support communication with participants and families, and organize and support retention efforts to maintain participants Effectively communicate and collaborate with key school partners to ensure positive program outcomes that meet the needs of all involved Translate program material in google translate for non-English speaking participants Administration :

Collect and track all necessary paperwork and data with accuracy and regularity Deliver and obtain program evaluation information from participants for program quality assurance and reporting purposes Assist Program Coordinator with continued development of policies, short and long-range goals, strategic planning, and budget expenditures Seek Continuous Professional Development:

Participate in learning experiences that enhance programming efforts Develop and/or enrich activity opportunities that engage youth participants interests and requests Collaborate with Girls & Youth Program Managers, Program Coordinators, and Youth Counselors across Girls & Youth programs; develop youth work skills in different programming contexts RELATIONSHIPS :

This position reports to the Contact Plus Coordinator. This position will interact with Girls and Youth

staff, school and community organization contacts. Critical relationships will include program

participants and families.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Required :

Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience: o working with youth from low-income families o working with BIPOC youth o planning and facilitating effective, structured groups Ability to independently facilitate and teach comprehensive groups focused on sexual health education § Ability to professionally and strategically exercise clear boundaries when talking about sensitive topics and make quick decisions while using good judgment Passion for sexual health education and working with youth Ability to carry out duties independently, as well as in a team setting Ability to work with a variety of cultures, backgrounds and perspectives. Basic understanding of systems of oppression § Possess current CPR and First Aid certification, or successfully obtain within 30 days of hire Driver's License with reliable transportation and willingness to drive to various program locations (mileage reimbursed) Preferred: Experience in youth programming related to sexual health education and adolescent development Experience and knowledge of working with LGBTQ+, trans, non-binary, and gender expansive communities Strong belief in YWCA Minneapolis mission and ability to convey its importance Design skills, familiarity with Canva Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)

WORKING CONDITIONS :

§ The ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds § Must have driver's license and own reliable transportation to travel to required work site Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

Proven knowledge of sexual health issues and adolescent development. Minimum of four years experience and demonstrated customer service working with youth from low-income and inner city families. Minimum of two years college or continuing education in Youth Development. One year minimum experience with lesson planning and facilitating structured groups. Strong oral, written and presentation skills. Proven ability to facilitate and teach comprehensive sexual health topics. Excellent time management and organizational skills and the ability to carry out duties independently as well as in a team setting. Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of cultures, backgrounds and perspectives. Strong problem solving skills and ability to make quick decisions while using good judgment. Reliable transportation to travel to various program sites and meetings. Must possess a valid driver's license with a minimum four years clean driving experience. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office software. Preferred:

BA or BS in Education, Youth Development, Social Services, or related field. Two years experience creating age appropriate activities and curriculum. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. Travel to various YWCA of Minneapolis sites.
