The primary functions of this position involve design, execution and control of laboratory research studies under the direction of the principal investigator. Candidates for this position should have a strong background in cell biology and biochemical techniques including, but not limited to, immune cell isolation, immunoblotting, microscopy, as well as be comfortable working with human samples. The main responsibilities of this position will be to develop, design and conduct experiments related to the mission of the lab, collect and analyze data, and assist in preparation of research manuscripts and presentations for publication and conferences. Further responsibilities will include training of laboratory professionals and students, development and revision of existing research methodologies, and critical analyses of relevant literature.


Candidate will also be responsible for general maintenance and operation of laboratory equipment, as well as troubleshooting instruments and protocols as necessary. Attention to detail and strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills are a must.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Conduct and coordinate experimental tests and plan the processing and analysis of research data obtained in grant related experiments.
  • Develop and test experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical methods related to current research grants and make recommendations for their utilization for better grant results.
  • Design and improve the experimental equipment. Instruct research techs in experimental procedures. Maintenance of grant related lab equipment, troubleshooting instruments and grant related protocols as needed.
  • Prepare reports, figures, and other electronic files related to grant research results. Assist in the preparation of grant related manuscripts and presentations for publication.
  • Miscellaneous activities, including submitting orders and updating inventories needed for current projects.


Minimum Requirements :

  • Doctoral degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or an associated field.


Preferred Qualifications :

  • 2-3 years of laboratory experience, preferably in immune cell biology.

Physical Requirements :

  • Requires working in a laboratory with both sitting and standing for extended periods of time.
  • Regular use of a computer.
  • The ability to see, hear and have good depth perception based on color.
  • Lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • May require occasional travel between University buildings to meet with others.
