Controls Technician/Engineer

The Controls Engineer will be responsible for troubleshooting, programming, and optimizing Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) to ensure efficient operation of manufacturing processes and automation systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with PLC programming, systems integration, and troubleshooting in a manufacturing environment. You will work closely with other engineers, production teams, and maintenance personnel to enhance system performance, minimize downtime, and ensure safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve PLC-related issues to maintain production efficiency.
  • Program and configure PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, etc.) to control automated machinery and processes.
  • Develop, test, and implement control system solutions for new and existing manufacturing processes.
  • Conduct system optimization and preventive maintenance activities to improve performance and minimize unplanned downtime.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, operations, and maintenance) to identify opportunities for automation improvements.
  • Review and update electrical schematics, control logic, and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems.
  • Support the installation, commissioning, and startup of new automated systems and machinery.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards in all control system designs.
  • Provide technical support and training to production and maintenance teams on control system operations and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Monitor and analyze control system data to detect trends, diagnose issues, and recommend corrective actions.


Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering (preferred) OR equivalent work experience (3+ years)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a controls engineering role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong experience programming and troubleshooting PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar).
  • Proficient in electrical control systems, circuit design, and industrial automation systems.
  • Familiarity with SCADA, HMI, VFDs, and industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, etc.).
  • Experience with system integration and project management.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and control diagrams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
