This is a contracted position that works up to 29 hours a week and no benefits are offeredPosition Definition:TheClassroom Nursewill provide Health and Classroom support services to students in classrooms to assess, document, and manage the health care needs of students, assist classroom staff in the support of students during the school day in CLIU programs, and recognize symptoms and consequences of safety and environmental factors. Relationship:TheClassroom Nurseis directly responsible to the Assistant Director of Special Programs and Services under the clinical guidance from the Certified School Nurse. Qualifications: Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in nursing (BSN).
Valid First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification.
Valid PA Registered Nurse License.
Skills/Knowledge:
Demonstrates a proficient understanding and utilization of Microsoft Office Suite and other software packages for use in the Special Program and Services Department.
Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively with others.

Ability to conduct a safety restraint protocol which requires:
a normal degree of flexibility;
the ability to stand, walk, run, and shuffle for at least several minutes;
the ability to kneel on one and two knees and then stand up;
the ability to bend the trunk at 45 degrees and twist to either side;
the ability to grasp firmly and raise hands above the head; and
the ability to learn and correctly demonstrate multi-step physical skills.

Provides direct health care services, including, but not limited to, assessing, documenting, and managing the health care needs of children in the classroom.
Collaborates with Certified School Nurse in regards to medical concerns of specific students in IU classrooms, as directed.
Administers prescription or other medications in accordance with doctor’s order and CLIU protocols.
Participates and collaborates in IEP meetings for students that require health care services during the school day, as directed by Program Supervisor.
Assists in the review of medical information, including immunization records, for students referred to the CLIU programs or as requested by Program Supervisors.
Collaborates with CLIU Supervisors and Certified School Nurse to determine, plan, and provide staff development regarding medical issues for personal care assistants and special education staff.
Travels to designated job sites according to the established work schedule and adheres to the established work schedule unless otherwise directed by supervisor.
Provides support, feedback, and training to CLIU staff regarding personal care services outlined in the student IEP.
Collaborates with the Certified School Nurse to interpret student health information provided by physicians, medical facilities, social agencies, and parents.
Coordinates and maintains accurate and current cumulative health records, medication records, and health plans.
Maintains professional and confidential handling of health records, medication records, and health plans.
Attends and participates in meetings and trainings, as required.
Contributes to the development and maintenance of an environment in which students, their families, and fellow staff members feel safe, nurtured, respected, and welcomed.
Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the CLIU Service programs, observing FERPA and HIPPA regulations.
Makes referrals to parents to seek medical treatment on an individual basis.
Conducts and/or coordinates all student screenings and testing, as directed by the Certified School Nurse.
Adheres to all applicable Pennsylvania School Code and/or employer policies and procedures.
Remains current with trends, best practices, and related subject matter in order to provide efficient and effective services.
Assists in working with students individually and in small groups on academic/developmentally-appropriate activities, social interactions, communication, practical life skills, and behavior management.
Performs appropriate lifting, positioning, and transferring techniques in accommodating students' needs.
Monitors/assists students with all personal hygiene/toileting/diapering/ changing of clothes/feeding activities.
Uses strategies, as directed, to increase student independence.
Supervises and assists with self-help skills, such as feeding or drinking during snack and/or lunch times.
Operates computer, assistive technology devices, and other technology and equipment.
Monitors outdoor and physical activities and assists bus/van loading and unloading.
Uses strategies, as directed, for behavior management.
Escorts students to therapies, general education classes, and activities when necessary.
Uses strategies, as directed, to increase the individual's independence and confidence.
Assists related services staff with the implementation of therapies, as needed.
