Position Summary:

Coordinates and provides accurate, consistent treatment procedures as ordered by the residents attending physician and to monitor current practices and procedures within the facility. These duties should be in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations, and as may be directed by the Administrator and or the Director of Nursing to assure that the highest degree of quality resident care and safety can be maintained at all times.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this position. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Documents the resident's condition and nursing needsAccurately and promptly implements physicians' ordersWeekly Skin Audits on all residentsWeekly documentation on wound care log and nurses notes, to include measurements, treatments and response to treatmentAssigns nursing care to team members in accordance with the resident's needs and the person's capabilities and qualificationsPerforms treatments for assigned resident's and documents that treatment as required by Regency, state and federal regulationsParticipates in orientation and in-service training for personnelAssist physicians with special tests and procedures within the scope of state specified Nursing Practice ActAssure that adequate supplies are available to personnel who perform procedures that involve exposure to blood or body fluidsMonitor Nursing service to ensure that they are following established safety regulations in the use of equipment and suppliesEnsure that all nursing work areas (i.e. nurse's station, med rooms etc.) are maintained in a clean and sanitary mannerEnsure that all resident care rooms, treatment areas, etc., are maintained in a clean and safe mannerParticipate in the review and revision of care plans and assessments as necessary, but at least quarterlyAssist with the development, implementation and maintenance of an ongoing Quality Assurance Program for the nursing department as pertaining to Wound Care ManagementContact families of residents with skin treatments on a weekly basis with an updateEnsure Medical Director and Director of Nursing are made aware of wounds that are not responding to treatment weeklyConsult with RD, Dietary Manager and PT on complicated wound healingOversee the facility Infection Control Program, to insure each infection is monitored and follow-up labs as orderedPrepare the monthly infection control report with tracking and trendsInfection control report done on all infectionEnsures that supplies are utilized economically and that equipment is clean and maintained in a safe mannerReports and records pertinent observations and reactions regarding residentsCoordinates nursing care of residents when scheduled for therapy or procedures by other departmentsAssists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in residentsPerforms other tasks as assignedPromotes interpersonal relationships and develops staff moraleAnswer resident call lights and ensure that all residents are checked frequentlyAny suspected abuse must be reported to the Director of Nursing/Administrator immediately

QUALIFICATIONS

Educational Requirements and Experience:

Graduate of accredited LPN/LVN School of Nursing or RN School of NursingValid RN licenseValid CPR certificationWound care certification preferredOne year experience in nursing preferred
