Service Description Summary:
The service provider shall offer veterinary services and consultative support to support the BARC research animal program. The role involves providing veterinary care, guidance, and consultation to efficiently operate the animal research program, ensuring compliance with relevant accreditation and regulatory standards. The service provider will support various animal research activities as specified in the following list.
General Veterinary Duties:
Routine Veterinary Care:Conduct on-site animal health checks at least 5 days per week, providing necessary treatment.Be available for emergency care and treatment for traditional laboratory and agricultural species seven days a week, including weekends and holidays.Collect diagnostic samples and data for health monitoring.Handle euthanasia procedures following institutional guidelines.Maintain detailed and precise animal health records.Initiate and update animal health records, including injuries, treatments, and outcomes.Consultations and Related Services:
Report abnormal conditions and emergencies.Provide consultations in research study design and planning.Ensure a safe and secure work environment.Maintain biosecurity and biosafety measures.Handle animal diseases and associated risks.Adhere to physical security and biosecurity policies.Report security violations and unauthorized entries.Qualifications :
A Veterinary Medical Degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited institution.A current license to practice veterinary medicine in the United States.The ability to become a USDA-accredited veterinarian in Maryland within 180 days.Commitment to ongoing professional education.A valid DEA license or the capability to obtain one.Proficiency in routine veterinary care and survival surgeries.Diagnostic skills for assessing animal health.Knowledge of animal husbandry, welfare, and emergency care.
