Overview:
This position processes requests for laboratory work by obtaining specimens and inputting required information in the Laboratory Information System (LIS). It requires basic understanding of related functions in the HIS. Meets customer needs in an efficient and professional manner.Responsibilities:PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(*Essential Functions)Draws blood samples and collects other specimens from patient, following established laboratory procedures for specimen collection, handling and processing. Assures that Positive Patient Identification is followed throughout the specimen collection and delivery process.Processes laboratory test related information (Electronic or Paper) in the Laboratory Information System, as outlined in the policy. Utilizes Hand Held System as expected..Strictly adheres to National Patient Safety Goals, HIPAA Guidelines, and AIDET Expectations.Processes laboratory test requests in the order of priority. Responds to STAT and Time Request tests as promptly as possible.Interacts effectively with physicians, patients, and other support services. Responds to customer's concerns and comfort positively. Answers phone calls promptly and professionally.Participates in inventory management optimal resource utilization.Assists with training of new employees.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESGeneral knowledge of phlebotomy procedures and practices.Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.Ability to work independently and in a team environment.Ability to provide compassionate patient care and orientation.Energetic, self-motivated, and driven
EDUCATION ,
EXPERIENCE, & CERTIFICATIONHigh School Diploma/GED Equivalent RequiredSuccessful completion of a Phlebotomy Program from an approved institutionWork experience in a hospital / clinical setting is preferred as long as they are closely related to the essential functions of the positionPBT (ASCP) or Equivalent within two years of hire
