Power BI Specialist

Job Title: Power BI Specialist Location: Remote Duration: 10 Months Job Description: The EBI (Enterprise Business Intelligence) environment is expanding data analytics, reporting, and visualizations offerings by introducing MS Power BI to the suite. This contracted resource is needed to bring expertise and best practices to the EBI inhouse operations team in the configuration, implementation, administration of the Power BI platform. Responsibilities include: The EBI Applications Technical Specialist will be responsible for implementing, maintaining, and growing our PowerBI platform. The main focus area of this position will be to advance the future state of self-service analytics. Administer Microsoft Power BI platform and OnPremise Gateway, lead implementation planning, and configuration. Perform initial configurations and implementation of Microsoft Power BI architecture in coordination with EBI management team. Review and expand any existing usage standards, processes or training materials as part of implementation. Administer Microsoft Power BI platform and On-Premise Gateway, lead upgrade planning, configuration, and capacity planning. Coordinate with Microsoft Premium Support and other EBI team members when troubleshooting and resolving performance issues. Guide Power BI Dashboard developers and other colleagues during dashboard development using Power BI and DAX to establish and promote best practices for dashboard and data set development and publishing (location, layout, dataset access, DAX usage, security, performance tuning, naming conventions). Optimize Workspaces and datasets to promote ease of self-service, and provide a secure, structured organization of workspaces, apps, data sets and dashboards. Work with business partners to migrate the existing workspaces and data sets into an organized catalog of information areas and data sets. Advance access control, and data security capabilities in accordance with EBI, DoIT CSG and individual State Agency's security consideration. Establish monitoring and service performance reporting together with EBI operational teams. Developing and implementing automation of promotion and deployment/publishing of data dashboards, data sets, and refreshes through Broadcom's CA Workload, PowerShell scripting, and other means. Assess, build, and optimize new and existing reports and data visualization dashboard prototypes using Power BI and DAX as required to triage issues, or to recommend improvements. Self-starter, can troubleshoot complex data problems, brings strong analytical skills with a focus on detail, thoroughness, and quality and must be a team player with strong attention to detail and able to work independently. Sees long term analytical business needs as primary focus, acts with a sense of urgency to resolve issues, identifies what needs to be done and takes action before being asked. Energetic about pushing the boundaries of what is possible, he she proposes and implements innovative improvement opportunities and ideas to evolve the BI platform. Required Skills: Has deployed and managed Power BI Premium in a enterprise-size organization, including managing users, Apps, Workspaces, and Content Packs. Administration experience of OnPrem Data Gateway at enterprise level environment with large number of users Knows "Power BI Premium Capacity Metrics" inside out. Has proven experience performing Power BI On-Prem Data Gateway installation, upgrades and configurations. Experienced with "cmd" and PowerShell scripting for automation. Has a solid understanding of Power BI security (access control, data row-level security, use of roles to control sharing, publishing, data export) Proficiency in SQL and experience in relational databases / data warehouses (Oracle, SQL Server)
