Job Purpose:

The purpose of the Sr. Patient Registration Specialist is to conduct the eligibility verification screening, documentation collection, and financial assessments for all clinic patients accessing services, including verifying eligibility for HIP and Ryan White funded programs, Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act insurances, and Medicaid or Medicare.

Essential Job Functions:Conducts initial and 6-month eligibility screenings and financial assessments for new and existing clients.Effectively coordinates and communicates with other staff regarding the status of eligibility for and access to agency services.Maintains effective communication between inter agency service providers to coordinate services.Verify and update patient demographics at each encounter.Verify and update patient insurance information at each encounter.Serve as a back-up to the Patient Registration Specialist position when needed.Inputs all required patient demographics and information into the electronic record when the patient is present and while following PHI & HIPAA guidelines.Completes required documentation in a timely manner.Maintains current awareness of community-based resources and public benefits available to clients.Maintains current awareness of basic HIV disease and treatment issues.Handles confidential and sensitive client/patient information using HIPPA guidelines.Works within the system in a resourceful manner to accomplish reasonable work goals; shows flexibility in response to process change and adapts to and accommodates new methods and procedures.All other duties as assigned.Participates in performance improvement activities and initiatives on-going.Attends and participates in in-service and continuing education offered to the staff.Required Education:

Bachelor’s degree, or Three (3) years’ experience working within a healthcare establishment with a focus on patient registration, verifying eligibility, and completing patient financial assessments.Skills, Licensure, and Knowledge Requirements:

Managed Care or Ryan White experience is highly desired.Proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Office, and typing skills are required.Proficient in medical practice management software (e.g., Athena Health).Sound knowledge of dental and medical terminology.Excellent verbal, customer service, and written skills.Exceptional organizational skills.Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.Physical Demands:
