SUMMARY

The Thrift Store Backroom Associate is responsible for donation intake, processing, pricing, and overall organization of the backroom. They will help manage staff and volunteers with tasks, performance and completion of tasks and interacting with individuals donating. Required to lift heavy items and responsibilities include daily help with garbage, recycling and ragstock and in winter to shovel near donation door and front of store doors as needed. The hours can include weekends and evenings.

Receive Incoming Donations

Provide exceptional customer service by greeting and assisting individuals with donations.Process Incoming Donations

Evaluate individual donated items and sort based on condition into the appropriate area. Monitor areas to ensure there is no overflow.Price Incoming Donations

Value item based on pricing lists and price accordingly. Ensure donations are merchandised properly to be placed on the floor.Backroom Organization

Monitor overall appearance of the backroom area and organize as needed. Ensure garbage, recycling and ragstock bins are empty at the end of the day.Employee and Volunteer Management

Communicate with staff and volunteers and assign, monitor performance and completion of tasks.Customer Service

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:

High school education, post-secondary training or the equivalent combination of education and experience in a related industry.

Knowledge of:

Policies, regulations and procedures covering specific areas of assignment.Conflict resolution, communication, multitasking, and customer service.Skill in:

Customer service and interactions with staff and volunteers through perceiving the needs and concerns of others, interacting in a tactful manner, resolving conflicts, mediating disputes and building personal skills.Analyze incoming donations through properly sorting and pricing items.Ability to lift heavy items, such as donation boxes and moving furniture.Maintaining composure and working effectively under stressful situations, flexible thinking and ability to prioritize multiple tasks, projects and demands.Tasking staff and volunteers and effectively evaluating performance and competition of tasks.Working effectively with persons of diverse racial and socioeconomic backgrounds.Effective verbal and written communication.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License, proof of insurance and review of Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) report may be required.
